Electronics Lab and Office Manager
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented staff member to help manage our small electronics lab as well as our office needs. This person should have a high comfort level with technical work, at least in a supporting role but ideally having direct experience working with electronics (e.g. technician). They should be generally "handy", as well as be proficient at office-related tasks such as vendor relations (order management), handling shipping/receiving, keeping up spreadsheets (Excel), bookkeeping, inventory, assisting with document generation and upkeep (PowerPoint slides, user guides, proposals, internal and external communications of both a technical and non-technical nature), etc.

Experience
- Familiarity with general office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, AI assistant) and ability to follow budgeting processes and financial management plans (some experience with QuickBooks desirable).
- Excellent communication skills and phone etiquette.
- Demonstrated organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- High comfort level with computers (including installing and maintaining software for yourself and others).
- Ideally has proficiency in electronics, such as reading circuit schematics, soldering PCB's, PCB layout, wiring, and basic electricity and electronics knowledge. Capabilities in mechanical (basic tool use such as drilling and tapping holes; part assembly) and computer (programming, networking, equipment automation) fields also useful.
Position Summary
This position will help with a wide variety of tasks. Some primary responsibilities include general office management including inventory management, compliance management, assembling and trouble-shooting electronic systems, reading and/or writing technical and non-technical documentation and/or reports, helping to maintain computer systems, inventory management, and logistics. Perform other tasks as needed. All experience levels (entry to senior) will be considered.
Education/Work Experience
- We are open to a wide variety of backgrounds for the right candidate, with a typical background being Associate's Degree in Electronics Engineering Technology or other technology-related credentials (e.g experience in maintaining or building complex electro-mechanical machines such as military equipment, or automotive or industrial equipment).
- Manufacturing/assembly experience and/or field service experience in electronic installations or repair is a plus.
- Experience with management/office tasks like logistics, report management, or bookkeeping.
General Skills:
- Basic reading and writing skills in English, in addition to basic math skills
- Ability to read, understand, and write documentation
- Strong communication, teamwork, and listening skills
- Analytical and problem-solving skills
- General knowledge of computers and computer maintenance
- Use of basic tools like screwdrivers, drills, taps, saws, or soldering irons
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and take responsibility for completion
- Generally "handy"
Optional Background:
- Optics/photonics technology
- CAD experience (e.g. Illustrator)
- Ability to read and understand contracts, including government contracts
- Bill-of-material and inventory tracking
- Computer automation of instruments (e.g. Python)
- Use of electronic equipment like oscilloscopes and spectrum analyzers
Physical Requirements:
- Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle objects (including small objects), tools or controls
- Regularly required to walk, stand, reach with hands and arms
- Regularly required to communicate verbally and in writing
Work Environment
- Most work occurs in typical lab/office environment, standard hours (e.g. 9 am – 5 pm) with some flexibility
- Small company in Park Ridge; close to highway and public transportation
- Varied projects and needs so flexible-minded individual willing to learn and work on a wide variety of topics ranging from electronic, mechanical, logistical, and office-related.
- Ability to manage your own time and work independently
