(two women's, one men's) and

We're seeking a
Controller
to oversee accounting operations across all entities as our long-standing leader transitions into retirement. The ideal candidate is as confident with numbers as they are kind with people—someone who values accuracy, communication, and collaboration just as much as spreadsheets.

Position Overview

This role manages accounting, financial reporting, and payroll for all locations and e-commerce operations. The Controller ensures smooth daily operations and accurate financial data, supporting leadership with insights for smart, confident decision-making.

This is a
remote position based in the Charlotte area
, supporting a
team of 30
across multiple stores.

  • Experienced with multi-entity or retail accounting (QuickBooks, Lightspeed, Shopify familiarity a plus).
  • Highly organized, detail-obsessed, and deadline-driven.
  • Balances independence with collaboration—comfortable being the "go-to" for all things financial.
  • Confident communicator with a service mindset and approachable style.
  • Steady under pressure, discreet with sensitive information, and loyal to the team's success.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Payable

  • Match store vouchers to invoices and record in QuickBooks.
  • Reconcile vendor statements and maintain vendor records.
  • Download, code, and record all credit card, health insurance, and shipping invoices (UPS/FedEx).
  • Manage vendor deposits and maintain a spreadsheet for seasonal prepayments.
  • Record sales manually downloaded from Lightspeed retail system.
  • Match Shopify e-commerce deposits to bank transactions in QuickBooks.

Banking & Cash Management

  • Reconcile monthly bank statements.
  • Initiate wire transfers and maintain records for vendor payments.
  • Monitor currency exchange rates for international vendors (EUR/GBP).
  • Manage Line of Credit and Sweep Accounts for two Charlotte stores; coordinate annual renewals.

Taxes & Compliance

  • File monthly Sales & Use Tax returns.
  • File annual California Business Tax return.
  • Coordinate with external tax accountants to prepare books and annual filings.

Insurance

  • Oversee annual renewals for liability, inventory, and workers' compensation coverage.
  • Coordinate with Jewelry Operations on insurance documentation.
  • Manage health insurance benefit administration.

Payroll & HR Administration

  • Prepare offer letters and onboarding paperwork; coordinate with Direct Payroll.
  • Manage part-time employees through Time Clock Wizard.
  • Verify and adjust timesheets as needed.
  • Oversee Simple IRA applications and monthly contributions to Charles Schwab.
  • Record payroll in QuickBooks for each pay period.
  • Calculate monthly commissions and store credits for the sales team.
  • Collaborate with management for review and processing.

Financial Reporting

  • Prepare accurate financial statements and reporting for ownership.
  • Support annual reviews for factoring companies and vendor credit applications.
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready books for tax and banking partner
