Position Summary

A local private school in Lynchburg, VA, is seeking a skilled and reliable HVAC Technician to join our facilities team. This role is responsible for ensuring a safe and comfortable campus environment for students, faculty, and staff by maintaining all heating, ventilation, and cooling systems.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on professional with strong diagnostic skills and a commitment to quality maintenance.

Schedule

• Hours: This is a full-time position. Daily hours may vary, but are generally 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM.
• Weekends: Rotating weekend work is required to support campus operations and handle emergency needs.
• Flexibility: Overtime and non-standard hours may be required without notice to complete assigned work or respond to emergencies.

Major Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair campus heating, ventilation, and cooling (HVAC) units.
• Diagnose and repair electronic, mechanical, and electrical components of diverse HVAC systems.
• Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance (PM) on all equipment according to a set schedule.
• Conduct regular building tours and inspections to identify maintenance needs and execute corrective actions.
• Receive and complete work orders, maintaining accurate records on materials used, labor, and refrigerant inventory.
• Diagnose service issues, identify and obtain necessary replacement parts, and calibrate systems to manufacturer recommendations.
• Follow all safety requirements, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• As a member of the facilities team, be prepared to perform duties outside of the normal HVAC expertise to meet the mission and goals of the department.

Position Requirements

Education & Licenses:

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• CFC Certification (Universal or Type II) is required.
• A valid Driver's License is required.
• A certificate or two-year degree from a trade/community college in HVAC/R is highly preferred.

Experience & Skills:

• Requires 1-3 years of experience in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of HVAC service issues.
• Good analytical skills and strong attention to detail.
• Must have the ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and technical manuals.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with school management and staff.
• Must be able to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
• Valid Drivers license is required for this role.

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
• The role requires the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
• Must be able to use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with arms and hands for extended periods
