YOUTH & SPORTS DIRECTOR

YMCA OF MIDDLETOWN

Position: Youth & Sports Director Employment Status: Exempt

Reports to: Executive Director (E.D.) Location: SOFY Branch- 45 Gilbert Street Ext

General Function:

Under the supervision of the E.D., the Youth & Sports Director will create, supervise and provide enriched, value- based programs that focus on youth development and sports. Additionally, this individual will oversee varied other programs such as Kid's Night Out and Beat the Streets, along with specific adult activities.

Qualifications:

Ø Two or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other nonprofit agency.

Ø Have extensive hands-on experience working with youth and teens.

Ø Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all socio-economic segments of

the community.

Ø Proven record of accomplishment in developing authentic relationships with staff.

Ø Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with parents and community organizations.

Specific Duties:

Ø Coordinate all adult (basketball, pickle ball, volleyball etc.) sports programs, activities, and schedules throughout the year.

Ø Be responsible for hiring, training and development of sports staff.

Ø Coordinate all uses of gymnasium and create gymnasium schedule.

Ø Develop and oversee all main branch non-aquatics-preschool, youth & teen programs, such as basketball, soccer, karate, and gymnastics, Beat the Streets, Kids Night Out etc.

Ø Oversee Gymnasium and Lyons Center birthday parties.

Ø Take on role as Preschool Physical Education Teacher for Preschool and Pre K program during school year.

Ø During summer months, by taking on role as Wee Discover Camp Director.

Ø Provide leadership and mentoring to direct reports.

Ø Conduct staff meetings/trainings for your department in order to maintain positive communication, provide curriculum resources and promote new ideas for programs.

Ø Order/maintain program equipment and supplies for gymnasium and all related programs.

Ø Develop and work with the constraints of an annual operating budget-react to enrollment trends. Ensure that payroll is accurate and within budget.

Ø Work with Marketing Department to create designated schedules and marketing materials.

Ø Attend YMCA management staff meetings as required.

Ø Assume responsibility for personal professional development.

Ø Keep up to date with research/data and trends, as it relates to your program focus.

Ø Attend and support all YMCA wide events.

Ø Exemplify the Core Values of the YMCA in all interactions.
