UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full Time Research Assistant - Basic Science to support the Yanowitz lab
This is a fundamental science lab working to understand the genetic underpinnings of infertility at a molecular level. We use the model organism C. elegans for our studies. Current projects are looking at the evolution of the meiotic machinery across nematodes and performing structure-function analysis of the SPO-11 protein.

This position will work Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.
Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

This position is grant funded.
The Research Assistant will be responsible for performing experiments as outlined in the protocol including solution and sample preparation, conducting experiment, operating analytical instrument, record keeping, data analysis and report generation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, label, store and dispose of reagents, and calibrates equipment for research projects.
  • Assist in obtaining educational resources necessary to perform and interpret research and to remain abreast in research area of function.
  • Perform approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures including appropriate collection, recording, storage, and analysis of data, and reporting of results.
  • Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Follow appropriate research policies and procedures including all applicable laws and regulations and maintains scientific integrity including accurate data storage.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry, biology, or other basic science.
  • Experience with genetics and/or model organisms is preferred.
  • Fine motor skills are essential for this position.
