Senior Counsel, IP

What you can expect

Zoom is seeking a Senior Counsel, IP to join our legal team. In this role, you'll be a versatile IP generalist providing legal counsel across a wide range of intellectual property matters. The person in this role will be working with various teams to protect Zoom's brand and innovations.

About the Team

Zoom's legal team is a dynamic group of highly-experienced legal professionals who work across all business units and product lines and is dedicated to supporting the company's growth while managing risk. The legal team is highly collaborative, practical, and business-oriented partnering closely with cross-functional teams across the organization.

Responsibilities

• Advising on a broad range of IP issues, including trademarks, copyrights, and open source software compliance.

• Drafting IP provisions in complex agreements, including those related to customers, partners, and vendors, as well as joint development agreements and patent cross-license agreements.

• Advising the litigation team on a variety of disputes, including pre-litigation discussions and PTAB proceedings.

• Managing trademark prosecution, clearance, and enforcement matters, both domestically and internationally.

• Conducting IP due diligence for acquisitions.

• Serving as the primary legal counselor on compliance aspects of Zoom's use of open source software.

• Developing and leading processes for participation in open source projects and strategic open sourcing of Zoom technology.

• Monitoring IP-related legislation, policy, and decisions to identify opportunities where Zoom should influence developments.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of experience as an attorney at a law firm and in-house.

• Have a Juris Doctor and bar admission.

• Have experience with IP litigation, including e-discovery and PTAB experience.

• Possess experience counseling on trademark and copyright matters, with a focus on providing practical, actionable advice.

• Have experience reviewing, negotiating, and drafting IP provisions in a variety of commercial agreements.

• Have experience with trademark prosecution, clearance, and enforcement.

• Possess experience with technology companies, and preferably with enterprise software, consumer-facing brands, and SaaS businesses.

• Able to communicate effectively and collaborate cross-functionally with both legal and non-legal teams.

In addition to the base salary and/or OTE listed Zoom has a Total Direct Compensation philosophy that takes into consideration; base salary, bonus and equity value.

Note: Starting pay will be based on a number of factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience.

We also have a location based compensation structure;  there may be a different range for candidates in this and other locations
