ABOUT THE ROLE
The Assistant Controller will own the full accounting lifecycle for the East Houston business unit, operating fully on site and partnering closely with senior leadership and the parent company. This role spans general ledger to monthly close, consolidations, intercompany, project-based revenue recognition under Percentage of Completion, and continuous system and process improvements within an ERP environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage end-to-end accounting for the business unit including general ledger, month-end and year-end close, reconciliations, journal entries, and account analysis
- Apply Percentage of Completion accounting for project-based revenue models including accurate recognition, monitoring of project costs, and collaboration with project teams
- Lead consolidations and intercompany activities in coordination with the parent company to align accounting practices
- Prepare and deliver timely and accurate financial reporting including internal management reports, business unit performance dashboards, parent reporting, and external reporting as required
- Serve as the business unit ERP owner with preference for Epicor including configuration stewardship, data integrity, reporting automation, and control enhancements
- Document, review, and improve accounting processes and internal controls to drive efficiency, standardization, and scalability
- Partner with operations, project management, engineering, and fabrication to support cost tracking, billing, revenue recognition, and margin management
- Interface with the parent finance team and ownership on accounting initiatives, system upgrades, reporting enhancements, and growth strategies
- Contribute to a continuous improvement culture supporting growth, acquisitions, and integration activities
- Perform other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required
- Five to twenty years of progressive, hands-on accounting experience in mid-market environments with full-cycle GL, close, and financial reporting responsibility
- Demonstrated experience with project-based accounting and Percentage of Completion accounting required
- Proven experience with consolidations and intercompany accounting
- Strong systems orientation with ERP platforms ideally Epicor or similar including data integrity and process automation
- Track record of improving processes and internal controls with documented procedures and standardization
- Independent, detail-oriented, highly organized, and self-motivated with strong collaboration skills across senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Ability to work 100 percent in office in East Houston, Texas
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in industrial services, fire protection, construction, fabrication, engineering, or project-based services
- Advanced proficiency with Epicor or comparable ERP reporting tools and automation
