New York, New York, United States Charlie Health Full time $120,000 - $200,000 per year

Why Charlie Health?
Millions of people across the country are navigating mental health conditions, substance use disorders, and eating disorders, but too often, they're met with barriers to care. From limited local options and long wait times to treatment that lacks personalization, behavioral healthcare can leave people feeling unseen and unsupported.

Charlie Health exists to change that. Our mission is to connect the world to life-saving behavioral health treatment. We deliver personalized, virtual care rooted in connection—between clients and clinicians, care teams, loved ones, and the communities that support them. By focusing on people with complex needs, we're expanding access to meaningful care and driving better outcomes from the comfort of home.

As a rapidly growing organization, we're reaching more communities every day and building a team that's redefining what behavioral health treatment can look like. If you're ready to use your skills to drive lasting change and help more people access the care they deserve, we'd love to meet you.

About The Role
Substance use disorders (SUD) remain one of the most urgent public health challenges, often intertwined with complex mental health needs. At Charlie Health, we've built a virtual care model designed to address this intersection head-on—providing integrated, evidence-based treatment that supports both recovery and mental wellness.

Our SUD program is a critical and growing component of our care delivery model. As demand increases and we expand our reach, we're seeking a dedicated leader to drive the next phase of innovation, outcomes, and growth. The Head of Recovery Programming will oversee and evolve our SUD strategy—ensuring clinical excellence, financial performance, and continued differentiation in the market.

In this role, you'll serve as the clinical and operational lead for our SUD offering: refining programming, supporting therapist success, advancing client outcomes, and strengthening our position as a premier provider of virtual SUD treatment. You'll be responsible for aligning the program with our broader organizational goals.

We're a mission-driven team committed to transforming behavioral healthcare access and outcomes. If you're passionate about recovery, inspired by innovation, and ready to lead at scale, we'd love to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Program Leadership & Strategic Growth

  • Lead all commercial strategy efforts related to SUD programming.

  • Distinguish Charlie Health's SUD programming from other providers through strategic communications and external positioning.
  • Collaborate closely with the MAT (Medication Assisted Treatment) and Psychiatry teams to ensure seamless, integrated care.

  • Patient Experience, Data-Driven Oversight & Clinical Quality

  • Maintain a real-time dashboard of all patients receiving SUD services; proactively identify risks and intervene to improve care.

  • Interact regularly with Charlie Health's data science team to leverage machine learning models that predict patient outcomes and clinical risk factors.
  • Use insights from predictive analytics to drive early interventions, clinical improvements, and enhanced patient retention.
  • Conduct patient interviews post-discharge to gather feedback and drive program improvements.
  • Carry a small caseload to stay closely connected to the patient and clinician experience.
  • Conduct case consultations when any SUD patient is struggling or at risk of poor outcomes.
  • Partner with Clinical Directors and Supervisors to ensure high-quality, consistent SUD care across all teams.

  • Curriculum and Clinical Training

  • Review, edit, and continuously improve SUD group curriculum to ensure it is evidence-based, trauma-informed, and engaging.

  • Design and deliver a specialized training pathway for all clinicians working with SUD patients.
  • Attend treatment teams and group supervisions to provide ongoing training and guidance around SUD best practices.

  • KPI Management & Reporting

  • Own and drive performance against SUD-specific KPIs including:

  • Revenue growth from SUD program expansion
  • Patient satisfaction (NPS and experience surveys)
  • Attendance rates and treatment completion rates
  • Measurement-based care outcomes (e.g., PHQ-9, GAD-7, substance use indicators)

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree (PhD, PsyD, DSW) required.
  • Independent clinical licensure required (e.g., psychologist, LCSW, LMFT, LPC).
  • 5+ years direct clinical experience treating substance use disorders.
  • 7-10+ years experience leading or designing SUD programs.
  • Expertise in evidence-based SUD treatment modalities (e.g., Motivational Interviewing, CBT for SUD, Contingency Management, Harm Reduction, MAT integration).
  • Familiarity with machine learning, predictive analytics, and working collaboratively with data science teams preferred.
  • Experience working with a wide range of ages, including children, teens, young adults, and adults clients
  • Strong familiarity with measurement-based care, patient engagement strategies, and clinical outcomes management.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, remote environment.
  • Passion for clinical excellence, innovation, and improving patient care at scale.
  • Work authorized in the United States and native or bilingual English proficiency
  • Familiarity with and willingness to use cloud-based communication software—Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, Dropbox, Salesforce–in addition to EMR and survey software on a daily basis.
