The Distribution General Manager directs, manages, and supports all distribution service requirements for New Balance Distribution Center servicing all product lines (footwear, apparel, and accessories) for all distribution channels (wholesale, retail, and eCommerce). Overall planning of various operations and introducing work simplification to reduce costs and increase productivity. Responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly analysis of Distribution Center service, productivity, and flow of work. Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of Distribution and Operations to ensure goals and objectives are accomplished within prescribed time frame. Model the values and leadership competencies of New Balance.

Major Accountabilities

  • Directly manage 3+ leaders of department functions: maintenance, returns, receiving, and fulfillment.
  • Develop and achieve operational budgets, quarterly forecast reviews, and monthly reconciliation.
  • Manage service issues and requirements for Distribution, Customer Care, and Website Mgrs. related to drop shipping, packaging, labeling, and WMS/system modifications and or changes.
  • Analyze records of operations trends, administrative commitments, and obligations to ensure process support requirements.
  • Communicate regarding impact of business adjustment to applicable departments.
  • Work with Consumer/Customer Care, Website Managers, and Buyers to balance cost and service requirements to satisfy internal/external customer needs.
  • Develop KPIs & review for optimization of quality, production, and staffing.
  • Review status reports and modifies schedules or plans as required.
  • Collaborate with distribution team to track and achieve divisional objectives.
  • Set standards for processes, safety, and service. Reporting to management as required.
  • Ensure documentation of department records are kept current.
  • Offer subject matter expertise regarding ongoing evaluation of Service Level Agreement's (SLA) with an ability to reasonably project positive/negative impacts therein.
  • Offer timely administration of scheduled performance reviews with focus on fostering associate growth and development. Ensure execution of quarterly roundtable and associate 1:1 meetings.
  • Identify and recommend training and development of team members to promote success and progression within the company.
  • Drive creation of career paths/succession plans to appropriately challenge employees and reward their professional growth.
  • Establish, clearly communicate and implement team goals and priorities while promoting positive team and company morale.
  • Deliver regular feedback to team regarding performance.
  • Provide consistent execution of company policies to mediate conflicts and perform corrective actions.
  • Interview, hire, and terminate in coordination with Human Resources and according to company policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements For Success

  • Bachelor's Degree from a four-year college or university and/or eight to ten years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience with routing and transportation requirements for large wholesale accounts.
  • Occasional travel required.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Budget experience & accountability.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), WMS, and email.
  • Possess strong aptitude and desire to develop supervisors and lead a high-performance team.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, good planning/organizational skills, and ability to handle multiple priorities.
  • Adapts quickly to rapid internal and/or external changes or disruptions that effect service, cost, facilities, New Balance associates, etc.
  • Excellent knowledge of distribution activities and systems, including WMS.
  • Ability to manage and motivate a team structured workforce; collaboration with HR.
  • Sit/stand and work on a computer for long periods of time.
