As a Director of Brand & Creative Marketing, will own the evolution of MongoDB's global brand identity and creative expression. MongoDB isn't just about logos or design systems—it's about driving real business outcomes, translating our complex technical offerings into stories and experiences, and fostering pride and loyalty among all audiences. You will lead and influence all aspects of MongoDB's brand visual expression. You are an articulate champion for design, passionate about quality and craft, and an experienced leader of diverse teams who can elevate ambitious work while delivering outstanding business results. Reporting to the VP of Corporate Marketing, you will work with peer leaders in Marketing and Product to transform the MongoDB brand to drive mindshare and market share with developer and executive audiences.
You are responsible for leading a team of creative professionals and collaborating with marketing, product, and sales to develop marketing plans, analyze results, and identify opportunities. You are also responsible for meeting budget requirements by forecasting and managing expectations.
This role can be based out of our New York City, Austin, or San Francisco offices.
What you'll do:Strategic Impact & Vision
- Develop and articulate a bold, clear, and compelling brand strategy that enhances MongoDB's market differentiation, emotional resonance, and business impact with audiences ranging from developers to senior executives
- Translate MongoDB's business priorities into powerful creative concepts and brand campaigns. Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to craft ideas that move both our brand and the business forward
- Identify and resolve strategic challenges by innovating bold, creative solutions that drive transformation and brand loyalty
- Establish operational goals and metrics to measure awareness, emotional resonance, loyalty, and business outcomes—and implement mechanisms to continuously optimize MongoDB's brand performance globally
Creative Leadership & Brand Development
- Push the boundaries of our brand expression—from timeless visual systems to innovative campaigns—delivering emotional, human-centered work while staying connected to MongoDB's technical roots
- Lead narrative-driven storytelling across a variety of mediums (digital, video, events, product experiences, swag, etc.). Make technical complexity feel engaging, empowering, and relatable
- Stay ahead of emerging creative technologies, including AI, generative design, motion, and interactive storytelling. Leverage these tools not just for efficiency, but to unlock bold, new creative possibilities
- Build for digital-first experiences across platforms. Think intuitively about feeds, formats, and moments, creating a brand presence designed for today's fast-moving, online world
- Lead the refresh of our brand foundation and visual identity, ensuring MongoDB's design system is distinct, scalable, and future-ready
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Recruit, mentor, and inspire a multidisciplinary creative team of designers, content creators, illustrators, and more, fostering a culture of excellence and inclusion where bold ideas thrive
- Champion a culture of creativity and collaboration, driving strong concept development, attention to craft, and team cohesion
- Build partnerships across Product, Marketing, Employee Experience, and Corporate Communications to ensure brand consistency and cohesion across all touchpoints
- Serve as a key brand ambassador internally and externally, confidently articulating MongoDB's brand vision to executives, employees, and the wider ecosystem
Executional Excellence
- Deliver scalable, high-impact creative campaigns and brand experiences that resonate with developers and executive audiences alike
- Manage resources, timelines, and budgets with strategic efficiency that maximizes ROI while ensuring quality and innovation across projects
- Set a high bar for creative output, inspiring teams to raise the standard for storytelling, emotional connection, and visual expression at MongoDB
- Experiment boldly across digital, live events, swag, and interactive environments to create unforgettable experiences that make "using MongoDB" synonymous with belonging to something bigger
- Elevate our storytelling in product and company narratives through clear and compelling visual designs and elements
- Develop and articulate a compelling design vision and operational strategy aligned with MongoDB's goals
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to align creative work with business objectives and achieve pull-through across brands' platforms. This includes centralizing brand information, guidelines, collaboration tools, and digital asset management to ensure consistent brand communication
- Present design concepts and strategies to senior leadership, influencing decisions and direction. Through regular reviews and meetings, ensure clarity and consistent workflow
- Communicate effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project buy-in and execution
- Track industry trends and best practices, bringing innovative ideas back into MongoDB
- Maintain and model a high bar for quality and taste
- Prioritize work and resources across engagements based on short- and long-term needs and develop schedules by collaborating with designers, copywriters, and production artists
- Conduct brainstorming sessions with the creative team, maintaining strategic thinking to develop innovative and actionable initiatives in a fiscally responsible manner
- Review and approve art and copy developed by the team, ensuring that deliverables effectively address marketing goals and challenges
- Lead creative and design direction for brand initiatives, ensuring consistency and excellence
- Inspire, mentor, and lead a diverse team of design practitioners, fostering a culture of excellence, creativity, and collaboration
- Direct multiple projects, stakeholders, and budgets within deadlines. Manage budgets efficiently, maximizing ROI
- 10+ years of design leadership in an external agency and/or internal brand team
- Experience crafting and operationalizing branding and design systems for B2B, technology/SaaS brands across print, digital, video, etc. Experience working at or with databases, data analytics, data science, or similar products is a plus
- Leadership of creative production and execution of large in-person events and marketing campaign design alike
- Proven ability to develop successful concepts
- Strong creative vision with an eye on business objectives
- Experience in creating integrated content across all marketing channels: digital, social media, paid media, mobile, offline, and print
- Experience recruiting, retaining, and growing a team of diverse, talented creatives
- Excellent creative management skills with the ability to effortlessly meet deadlines on multiple projects with varying timelines
- Experience working in a fast-paced, high-volume, deadline-oriented environment
- Experience collaborating with cross-discipline senior stakeholders
- Experience pitching ideas that articulate a strategic design approach
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- A positive, kind team player with an optimistic, enthusiastic attitude who's able to collaborate with and influence peers to overcome obstacles
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in marketing or business
- Experience as a copywriter, graphic designer, or production artist
- Experience in project management, with a focus on creative direction

Compensation at the time of offer is unique to each candidate and based on a variety of factors such as skill set, experience, qualifications, and work location. Salary is one part of MongoDB's total compensation and benefits package.
