About This Role

The Regional Humanitarian Business Development Specialist will provide technical and strategic leadership across ChildFund's humanitarian response in the Americas. The position will focus on anticipating and preparing for crises, scaling quality humanitarian programs, positioning ChildFund with key donors, strengthening visibility though leadership, and ensuring technical quality in the design of proposals. The Senior Specialist may offer technical supervision of implementation in Country Offices through coordination and collaboration.

This is a full-time, open-ended, remote position open to candidates with current residence and work authorization in the following locations: Mexico City, Quito, La Paz, Guatemala City, Belo Horizonte, or Tegucigalpa.

Required Experience and Education

  • Bachelor's degree in international affairs, gender studies, social work, public health, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least 6–8 years of experience in humanitarian programming in the Americas, including in protracted crises and rapid-onset emergencies.
  • Demonstrated success working with USG donors (PRM, BHA, State Department) on humanitarian and protection programs.
  • Experience developing grants proposals and a track record that proves efficacy.
  • Experience supervising or implementing projects related to migration and humanitarian response.
  • Strong track record in regional network participation and leadership in inter-agency coordination forums.
  • Experience implementing Emergency Preparedness Plans (EPPs), Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs), and risk analysis tools for humanitarian response.
  • Demonstrated record of humanitarian certification, including but not limited to SPHERE certification, to ensure a solid foundation in humanitarian principles and standards.

Primary Responsibilities

1. Anticipating and Preparing for Emergencies

  • Lead roll-out and implementation of Emergency Preparedness Plans (EPPs) across priority countries.
  • Support country offices in activating emergency Standard Operational Procedures (SOPs) in alignment with ChildFund's program package.
  • Conduct risk-informed planning and scenario mapping, including for countries beyond traditional geographies (e.g., regional migration pathways).
  • Provide surge support in sudden-onset emergencies and guide transition to protracted response.

2. Technical Assistance for Humanitarian Programs at Scale

  • Deliver high-quality technical support to country offices on humanitarian programs included but not limited to child protection, violence against women and children, Mental Health and Psychosocial, and youth livelihoods in emergencies.
  • Ensure integration of Accountability to Affected Populations (APA), Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), and Safeguarding in all program designs.
  • Provide coaching to national technical specialists to localize and adapt ChildFund's technical packages for displacement-affected settings. Supervise the technical components of humanitarian grants implemented across the region.
  • Provide technical guidance to Country Offices (COs) for emergency responses and ensure adherence to global processes.
  • Assume management of emergency responses in the Americas region, leading rapid assessments, developing response plans, providing technical support, making periodic adjustments based on evolving needs, and overseeing the transition to recovery and exit phases.

3. Mobilizing Resources for Large-Scale and Protracted Crises

  • Support in- regional and country positioning for United State Government (USG), and other institutional funding aligned with regional trends.
  • Collaborate with the Business Development, foundations, and private fundraising teams to co-design compelling proposals and lead donor engagement strategies.
  • Track donor trends and humanitarian financing priorities across the Americas and advice regional and country offices about the new opportunities of funds.
  • Strengthen technical capacities in Country Offices in donor engagement and visibility.

4. Driving Strategic Visibility and Partnerships

  • Represent ChildFund in regional humanitarian coordination forums (e.g., REDLAC, LAC-RMD, CP AoR, R4V), contributing to regional agendas and technical working groups.
  • Strengthen relationships with peer organizations and regional platforms to explore joint programming and co-leadership opportunities.
  • Amplify ChildFund's voice and visibility through regional briefings, learning products, and donor engagements.
  • Develop communicational pieces to promote though leadership in the area of humanitarian response and protracted crisis.

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective implementation of the organization's humanitarian priorities.
  • Remain alert and responsive to any child safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Child Safeguarding Policy.
