Job Summary:
The Patient Accounts Receivable Collections Specialist is responsible for managing the collection of outstanding patient accounts receivable balances. They will work closely with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to resolve outstanding balances, identify and rectify billing discrepancies, and ensure timely payment. The specialist will also be responsible for accurately documenting all collection activities and maintaining up-to-date patient account records.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties of the position include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Contact patients to discuss outstanding account balances and establish payment arrangements.
- Review and analyze patient accounts to identify outstanding balances and overdue payments.
- Contact patients via phone, email, or mail to collect outstanding payments and resolve billing inquiries
- Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, including incorrect charges, coding errors, and insurance processing issues.
- Review and analyze patient accounts to identify delinquent balances and prioritize collection efforts.
- Document all collection efforts and communications with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers.
- Collaborate with other departments, such as billing, coding, and finance, to ensure accurate and timely processing of payments.
- Maintain compliance with healthcare regulations, including HIPAA and billing guidelines.
- Provide exceptional customer service to patients, addressing their concerns and inquiries professionally and efficiently.
- Meet established targets for accounts receivable aging and collections performance.

Education/Experience: High School Diploma or general education degree (GED), and a minimum of (1) years hands on administrative duties or related field.
Language Ability: Ability to speak effectively with customers and coworkers.
Math Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide on all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply commons sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: Ability to type 85 WPM, basic proficiency in Microsoft Outlook/Office with a focus in EXCEL, and experience using or ability to learn and comprehend computer programs.

Work Environment: Position works in a climate-controlled office environment with little or no potential interference from elements or sound.

Position typically works 8 hours per day. 1/3 or less of time will be spent standing. 2/3 or more of time worked will be sitting, using hands and fingers to type or handle paper. The position requires the ability to reach with hands or arms. Occasionally, the position will be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds. To successfully perform the duties of the job, the ability to talk and hear is required. Must have visual ability to view computer monitor.
