Duties

• Develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive infection prevention and control programs aligned with current healthcare standards and regulations.
• Conduct routine surveillance of infection rates through meticulous data collection and analysis, utilizing medical records and microbiology reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
• Review patient medical records, care plans, and documentation to ensure compliance with infection control protocols and HIPAA regulations.
• Lead investigations of infection outbreaks or incidents by reviewing medical records, observing patient care practices, and coordinating with epidemiology teams.
• Educate healthcare staff on aseptic techniques, proper use of PPE (personal protective equipment), OSHA standards, and best practices in infection prevention.
• Monitor adherence to infection control policies through regular audits, patient observation, and staff training sessions.
• Collaborate with management to develop targeted strategies for reducing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in high-risk areas such as intensive care units (ICUs), surgical suites, or trauma centers.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of microbiology, infectious diseases, anatomy, physiology, and public health guidelines to inform best practices.
• Manage data collection systems related to infection metrics using data management tools; generate reports for leadership review and compliance documentation.
• Serve as a resource for staff regarding infectious disease care, microbiology testing procedures, and epidemiological trends impacting patient safety.
• Ensure all infection prevention activities comply with OSHA standards and local regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Valid nursing license with current registration in the relevant state or jurisdiction.
• Critical care experience preferred; experience in hospital settings such as Level I Trauma Centers or acute care environments is highly desirable.
• Prior experience working in assisted living facilities or hospital environments that involve infectious disease care is advantageous.
• Strong knowledge of microbiology, epidemiology, anatomy, physiology, and public health principles related to infection control.
• Familiarity with MDS (Minimum Data Set) assessments and medical-surgical nursing practices.
• Proven ability in data management—including collection, analysis, reporting—and maintaining accurate medical records.
• Excellent documentation review skills coupled with attention to detail in patient monitoring and observation activities.
• Expertise in aseptic techniques, patient safety protocols, and infection control policies aligned with OSHA standards.
• Leadership qualities demonstrated through team collaboration, staff education initiatives, or management roles within healthcare settings.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations governing patient privacy and confidentiality during data handling processes.
• Ability to interpret medical terminology accurately while applying it within clinical documentation and reports.
