Los Angeles, California, United States California Post Acute Full time

Job Summary:

Vista Del Sol Care Center, a 50-bed skilled nursing facility located in Los Angeles, is seeking a full-time Director of Staff Development (DSD) who will also serve as part of the facility's Infection Prevention team. California regulations require a minimum of 20 hours per week of dedicated DSD responsibilities for facilities with 50 beds. This position is full-time because the remaining hours will be allocated to shared Infection Prevention responsibilities.

The Infection Preventionist duties will be shared with another licensed nurse, and together they will coordinate the facility's Infection Prevention & Control Program.

The DSD is responsible for all aspects of staff education, compliance, competency development, and ensuring accurate reporting and staffing compliance (including NHPPD and PBJ). Infection Prevention certification is not required upon hire, but the candidate must be willing to obtain certification during onboarding.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and conduct mandatory in-services, annual training, new hire orientation, and competency validations.
  • Develop, maintain, and update lesson plans for all educational programs, including regulatory-required topics.
  • Track and maintain records of all completed in-services, sign-in sheets, and competency checklists.
  • Ensure staff remain compliant with required certifications, CEUs, and training timelines.
  • Monitor, calculate, and support compliance related to NHPPD (Nursing Hours Per Patient Day) staffing requirements.
  • Ensure accurate PBJ (Payroll-Based Journal) data collection and support collaborative oversight of PBJ submissions for regulatory reporting.
  • Assist in performance improvement by identifying training needs, skill gaps, and developing targeted learning opportunities.
  • Provide ongoing education and resources related to policy changes, survey readiness, best practices, and clinical standards.

Infection Prevention (Shared Role with Another Licensed Nurse)

  • Share responsibility for implementing and maintaining the facility's Infection Prevention & Control Program.
  • Conduct infection surveillance, data tracking, and trend analysis.
  • Participate in outbreak investigation, response, and reporting.
  • Provide infection control education to staff, including hand hygiene, PPE, and isolation precautions.
  • Conduct routine infection control rounds to monitor staff practices.
  • Ensure compliance with CDC, CMS, CDPH, and local public health requirements.
  • Participate in QAPI, Infection Control, and facility safety committees.
  • Work collaboratively with the co-Infection Preventionist to ensure full program coverage.

General Responsibilities:

  • Maintain compliance with Title 22, federal regulations, and SNF requirements.
  • Support the DON and Administrator in staff-related documentation, compliance, and audit preparation.
  • Promote a culture of education, safety, teamwork, and high-quality resident care.
  • Assist with survey readiness, staff competency review, and corrective actions when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Administrator or DON.

Qualifications:

  • Active California LVN or RN license.
  • Minimum 4 years of SNF clinical experience strongly preferred.
  • Prior DSD, educator, or training experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of Title 22, CMS regulations, and SNF operations.
  • Must be willing to complete Infection Preventionist training/certification during onboarding.
  • Strong communication, teaching, and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with computers, EMR systems, Microsoft Office, and data tracking (including PBJ and NHPPD reporting).
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
