At ChooChoo Chicago, we provide a nurturing, loving, and home-like environment where play and discovery lead the way. Our play-based curriculum supports children's social-emotional growth, curiosity, and independence. We're a small and growing center built on trust, teamwork, and connection—with families, teachers, and our neighborhood community. If you're passionate about early education and want to be part of a place that truly feels like a community hub, we'd love to meet you.

About the Role: Lead Infant Teacher

We're looking for an experienced and energetic Lead Toddler and Twos Teachers who are ready to take ownership of their classroom and make a real impact. You'll create a safe, loving, and engaging environment where young children can grow through play, exploration, and consistency.

This role requires strong leadership, great communication, and a calm, organized presence. You'll set the tone for your classroom, guide assistants, and partner with families—all while keeping the day running smoothly and joyfully.

What You'll Do

Childcare & Daily Environment

  • Provide warm, responsive care in a clean, organized, and positive environment.
  • Support each child's physical, emotional, and developmental needs—including diapering, potty training, and feeding routines.
  • Encourage independence and participation through structured routines and playful learning.
  • Take children outdoors daily (walks, picnic, local adventures).
  • Keep the classroom tidy and keep areas sanitized—cleaning surfaces, toys, and shared spaces regularly.
  • Communicate with parents and rest of the team while creating a warm and engaging environment for all.

Curriculum & Learning

  • Plan and lead a play-based, developmentally appropriate curriculum that nurtures social, emotional, cognitive, and physical growth.
  • Implement the four daily pillars: Circle Time, Music & Movement, Sensory Exploration , and Large Motor Play.
  • Foster creativity and curiosity through hands-on projects and sensory exploration.
  • Collaborate with your teaching team to design meaningful classroom experiences.

Team & Communication

  • Model professionalism, teamwork, and a supportive attitude.
  • Communicate clearly and consistently with parents through Brightwheel (daily updates, milestones, and photos).
  • Welcome and mentor new team members as part of a collaborative, inclusive culture.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all DCFS and City of Chicago licensing and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, health, and incident records.
  • Complete all mandatory trainings, certifications, and in-service hours.
  • Stay alert and proactive about supervision and classroom safety at all times.

Professional Growth

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and staff meetings.
  • Take part in family events and center activities.
  • Work with the director to build your career growth path within ChooChoo Chicago.

What We're Looking For

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or related field (minimum 6 ECE credits) or a CDA credential with at least 1 year of solid infant classroom leadership experience.
  • DCFS-Lead teacher qualified and able to meet all city/state licensing requirements.
  • CPR/First Aid certified (or willing to obtain).
  • Food Handler's License (or willingness to obtain).
  • Up-to-date physical, TB test, and immunizations.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and classroom leadership skills.
  • A team player with a positive, professional attitude who genuinely enjoys working with children.

Why You'll Love Working Here

We take care of our team so you can take care of our children. At ChooChoo Chicago, you're not just clocking in — you're joining a close-knit family of educators who genuinely support one another.
