Media Specialist

The Media Specialist is to support the curriculum needs of the students (Elementary) and teachers at ICSAtlanta and manage the hubs' day to day functions. The Media Specialist will ensure the accessibility of current and relevant resources to both teachers and students.

The Media Specialist will promote an appreciation of children's literature and enjoyment in recreational reading in all grade levels. The Media Specialist will help students become familiar with a range of authors and genres in both print and digital forms.

The Media Specialist will support the development of the Primary Years Program (K-5th grade) at ICSAtlanta by:

• Maintaining learner profile resources
• Collaborating with the PYP coordinator as well as classroom and specialist teachers to support the learning in the classrooms
• Mentoring a 5thgrade exhibition group
• Organizing resources to complement learning for each transdisciplinary unit
• Participating in collaborative meetings with each grade level to stay abreast as to what is being learned in the classrooms
• Developing research and learning strategies to complement the PYP

Furthermore, the Media Specialist will support the development of the PYP and the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade curricula at ICSAtlanta by:

• Maintaining a collection of current professional resources for teachers
• Collaborating with the classroom and specialist teachers to support the learning in the classrooms
• Teaching students about citations as well as academic honesty
• Organizing resources to complement learning in the subject areas
• Understanding, implementing and promoting the inquiry cycle within both hubs
• Developing a curriculum for information literacy
• Participating in professional development to enhance teaching and student's learning
• Contributing to the professional development of others, giving support and willingly sharing resources and ideas

The Media Specialist will also oversee the continued growth and maintenance of the collection as well as ensure that circulation, cataloguing and processing services function effectively.

In this work, the Media Specialist will:

• Train and support teachers in the circulation and processing procedures of new resources
• Catalogue resources on both campuses
• Develop a policy that allow teachers and students to check out material
• Maintain records of teachers' recommendations
• Use reviewing journals to keep up-to-date on new titles
• Maintain budget record of the hubs expenditures

The Media Specialist will report to the Executive Director, in collaboration with the Lower Campus Director/PYP Coordinator, Upper Campus Director, and IT Specialist. The Media Specialist will work closely with all classroom and specialist teachers.

ICSAtlanta is looking for the following in a candidate:

• Bachelor's degree in a related subject
• Evidence of personal commitment to continuing professional development
• Experience in IB is desirable but not essential
• Experience in full time teaching in an elementary school is desirable
• Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences
• Ability to communicate in more than one language is desirable
• Ability to successfully create, communicate and inspire students
• Excellent organizational and time-management skills
• Attention to details
• Ability to work under pressure, be flexible and remain calm
