The Safety and Compliance Manager is a critical role responsible for protecting the organization from operational, legal, and financial exposure. This individual serves as the subject matter expert for workers' compensation, workplace safety, and regulatory compliance. Key responsibilities include managing the end-to-end workers' compensation process, conducting risk and safety audits, ensuring adherence to OSHA and other regulations, and acting as the primary liaison with insurers and legal counsel. The ideal candidate is a proactive, data-driven professional who can translate risk insights into actionable strategies to foster a safe working environment and support sustainable business growth.
Key Objectives
- Enhance Workplace Safety:
Proactively reduce workplace incidents and injuries, with a focused effort on high-risk environments like light industrial and event staffing. - Streamline Claims Management:
Efficiently manage workers' compensation claims to minimize financial exposure and reduce claim closure times. - Ensure Regulatory Readiness:
Maintain 100% compliance with all federal and state safety regulations through regular audits, accurate reporting, and effective training.
Key Responsibilities
Workers' Compensation & Incident Management:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all workers' compensation claims, guiding cases from incident to resolution.
- Partner with operations and safety teams to investigate workplace incidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Track, analyze, and report on claims data, maintaining meticulous documentation for legal and insurance purposes.
- Liaise with insurance carriers and third-party administrators to manage case follow-ups and documentation requests.
Compliance & Safety Auditing:
- Conduct regular risk and safety audits across all branches to assess compliance with company protocols and regulatory standards.
- Prepare and submit all required OSHA logs and reports, ensuring timeliness and accuracy.
- Assist legal counsel with compliance-related documentation, investigations, and external audits.
Strategy, Training & Process Improvement:
- Develop, update, and communicate standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to safety and risk management.
- Analyze trends in incidents and claims to develop data-driven, proactive prevention strategies.
- Provide guidance and reporting to executive and legal teams on potential exposures and risk mitigation efforts.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Year-over-year reduction in workers' compensation claim frequency and cost.
- Reduction in average claim closure time.
- 100% on-time submission of OSHA logs and regulatory reports.
- Number of safety audit findings resolved within agreed timelines.
- Zero major regulatory violations or citations.
Qualifications & Skills
Required Experience:
- 3+ years of direct experience in workers' compensation management, safety compliance, or risk management within a high-volume workforce environment (e.g., staffing, logistics, light industrial, manufacturing).
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of workers' compensation procedures and state-specific regulations.
- Proven expertise in OSHA standards and reporting requirements.
- Strong experience conducting audits and developing safety or compliance protocols.
- Excellent investigative, documentation, and report-writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the staffing industry.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., OSHA 30, Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Certified Safety Professional (CSP) track).
