Royal Caribbean Group's Risk Management team has an exciting career opportunity for a full time Manager, Loss Prevention & Quality Control, Ship Operations and Newbuild, reporting to the Dir, Loss Prev & Quality Control.
This role will work onsite in Miami, Florida.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for developing, managing, improving and sustaining shipboard safety programs including policy, procedures, design, and oversight for all brands under Royal Caribbean Cruises LTD including currently operating ships and for the design of new ships. Develop, implement and manage policies and procedures that support a safe shipboard environment for the 90,000 + crew onboard and provide monitoring and analysis for injury related incidents to both guests and crew onboard. Track and follow-up on corrective actions related to injury prevention initiatives for guest and crew. Review the results of investigations of safety related incidents with the goal of preventing future occurrences. Manage technical input for investigations. This position must ensure the quality of injury investigations to provide sufficient information for Royal's legal team to make adequate defense strategies in cases of litigation.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Manage through direct guidance and support to shipboard personnel to support injury prevention. Monitor internal and external safety reports and evaluate trends. Provide expertise to internal departments including legal (claims), medical/public health, human resources, global security (investigations), newbuild, refurbishment, revitalization, marine and hotel operations.
- Continually advance working knowledge of safety procedures as they relate to injury prevention including international safety regulations and standards. Conduct shipboard risk assessments of special features/rides and propose improvements to design, procedures and safety equipment. Support shore excursions review process. Manage all processes to ensure adequate corrective actions of noted deficiencies. Manage consultants conducting risk-based assessments and reviews of technical safety items.
- Develop and support shipboard safety training programs and manage cross departmental groups to determine root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Provide analysis of statistical data for injury related incidents as required for high level briefings to senior management including Board of Directors and Operational Review Board meetings. Manage, present and implement action plans related to this information.
- Review investigations of major shipboard incidents (e.g. serious injuries) and prepare reports as required. Present report details and findings to senior management and external agencies including port state control authorities, flag state authorities and classification society inspectors as necessary. Serve as primary point of contact for external authorities related to technical aspects of injury related safety incidents. Manage follow-up action plans from investigations including safety bulletins, lessons learned training documents and detailed action items. Manage and maintain incident database accuracy and provide content-based support and training for shipboard and shoreside users.
- Provide expertise related to regulatory safety issues with particular focus on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Conduct inspections for ADA compliance and provide suggestions for changes to design and procedures based on ADA and other applicable standards or regulations. Maintain professional organizational memberships related to safety and prevention.
- Manage risk assessments of guest shore features on RCL private destinations. Conduct oversight of shipboard guest features operational maintenance and training.
- Manage operational safety meetings as necessary and provide expertise and guidance to ensure company policies and procedures maintain high focus and standards for injury prevention.
- Provide guidance to internal auditors on all aspects of injury prevention.

Qualifications
- Bachelor degree (B. A.) preferred
- Shipboard experience preferred.
- Minimum of 6-8 years maritime or industrial / public safety experience with primary responsibilities in the training, implementation and administration of safety equipment, systems and processes.
- Minimum of 3 years in a leadership position directing a safety program Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.
- Working knowledge of personal computers within a Windows environment including e-mail, Microsoft Word, Access and Excel, and related printers and equipment.
- Ability to handle difficult situations such as those involving injured persons and their families, friends and witnesses.
- Requires excellent interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of management, guests and employees.
- Requires excellent writing and presentation skills. Ability to work in a shipboard environment and stand, walk or crawl for extended periods of time in hot or cold temperatures.
- Ability to work in conditions which may include confined spaces or working from heights.
- Ability to wear various personal protective equipment as required by the work environment up to and including respirators or self-contained breathing apparatus.
