Description
STX is seeking a passionate and driven Mechanical Engineer to join our Product Development team and help shape the next generation of innovative sporting goods. In this role, you'll design, test, and refine products across both hard goods (lacrosse heads, handles, helmets, field hockey sticks) and soft goods (protective gear, bags, textiles).
You'll be involved throughout the full product lifecycle, from concept development and prototyping to validation, production, and market launch. This is a hands-on opportunity to make a direct impact on products used by athletes around the world, within a fast-paced and collaborative environment that values creativity, craftsmanship, and performance-driven design.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities
- Product Development: Design, prototype, and refine new products to meet STX performance, durability, and cost targets.
- Engineering Design: Create and manage 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings using SolidWorks or similar CAD platforms.
- Testing & Validation: Conduct and support mechanical, material, and performance testing; analyze data to drive iterative improvements.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with industrial designers, product managers, and global manufacturing teams to bring ideas to life.
- Materials & Process Innovation: Research and evaluate new materials and manufacturing methods for both hard and soft goods.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate engineering documentation, including specifications, test reports, and revision histories.
- Continuous Improvement: Contribute to ongoing quality, performance, and sustainability initiatives across the STX product portfolio.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (Master's preferred).
- 0–5 years of experience in product design or mechanical engineering (sporting goods or consumer products preferred).
- Proficiency in SolidWorks, Creo or Fusion 360.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as injection molding, compression molding, and composite layups.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical and material testing.
- Strong analytical, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- A genuine passion for sports, performance, and innovation.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) or similar simulation tools.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping methods (3D printing, sewing, machining, etc.).
- Understanding of sporting goods standards and safety certifications.
- Experience collaborating with international suppliers and testing laboratories.
Who Thrives in This Role
The ideal candidate is self-motivated, curious, and hands-on, someone who thrives on turning ideas into tangible, high-performance products.
Successful engineers at STX are:
- Passionate Creators: Driven by the challenge of transforming concepts into real products.
- Curious & Resourceful: Constantly asking "why" and "how," and eager to explore new technologies.
- Adaptable: Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities evolve.
- Collaborative: Open communicators who build strong relationships across design, testing, and manufacturing.
- Athlete-Minded: Understand performance, durability, and user experience from an athlete's perspective.
