Graduates start their careers at National Grid with an in-depth 3-week in-person Orientation which gives you exposure to all parts of the company, allows you to network with your Graduate cohort, GDP alumni, and senior leaders, and provides you with the opportunity to travel throughout our service territory in the northeast US. Following Orientation, you'll begin working in full-time position outlined below and take part in ongoing development activities including quarterly development sessions, active mentorship, and a Hackathon Project.
About the PositionAre you ready to make a difference? As an Associate Engineer, you'll be part of a dynamic team supporting power plant operations that provide energy to over 1.4 million people You'll gain valuable exposure to various systems, including electrical, mechanical controls, and computer automation systems, while working on projects that are crucial for keeping the power on. Plus, you'll participate in a mentorship program that offers fantastic insights into other plants and generation assets, helping you build a diverse network and enhance your learning.
This is an on-site role (5 days a week) supporting the various power generation sites within our system on Long Island.
What You'll DoYou'll have the opportunity to learn and support many areas in power plant operations, including:
- Project Support: Assist in the planning, execution, initial in-service period, and post-outage report/recommendations for turbine/generator overhauls and boiler projects.
- Worklist Development: Create a steam or gas turbine and generator overhaul worklist based on operational history, maintenance requests, and OEM technical literature.
- Technical Review: Review technical specifications and documents for constructability to ensure project feasibility.
- Collaboration: Interface with other company departments, external contractors, and vendors to support plant operations and maintenance.
- Contract Administration: Manage contracts with vendors and contractors to ensure compliance and performance.
- Policy Administration: Uphold Company Policies and Procedures at both the supervisory and contract levels.
- Bachelor or Master's degree in Engineering from an accredited institution preferably in Mechanical, Electrical or Marine Engineering.
- Graduated between May 2025 and June 2026
- Ability to begin the National Grid Graduate Program on June 8, 2026, or July 13, 2026
- Valid driver's license required with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (such as sponsorship for an H-1B, TN, O, L, STEM OPT, or other employment-based work authorization)
- Previous experience with Maximo or P6 Planning.
- Previous experience with field or mechanical work.
- Previous experience with power generation.

Hicksville, NY $102,000 - $115,000 a year
You must reside within our existing footprint, which includes contiguous states (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont). Our hybrid working approach applies to all colleagues who have a role which has the flexibility to be done hybrid across the National Grid group. Operational requirements mean that not all roles are suitable for hybrid working. Managers are responsible for determining whether a role is conducive to hybrid working. A hybrid worker should also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to their assigned primary office.
