Overview

Public Works Technician III in Channel Maintenance is responsible for the preventative and corrective maintenance of the stormwater infrastructure and drainage system operations

Responsibilities

  • Obeys all traffic laws while operating fleet vehicle and equipment and follow all city policies
  • Performs daily pre/post trip inspections on all types of equipment and vehicles
  • Follows the Traffic control standards as per the Texas MUTCD Work Zone Traffic Control Guide
  • Directs traffic control at jobsite by Flagging, cones, barrel and barricades
  • Sets up message boards, water barrier, Type I, II, III barricade during normal and emergency operations
  • Repairs and maintains drainage right-of-way; perform storm water main, line, and service pipe installations
  • Grades and excavates of earthen ditches, cleaning concrete lined ditches, transportation of rubble and debris from ditches
  • Operates Gradall, Skid Steer, front loader, and/or other vehicles
  • Performs various routine, semi-skilled construction and maintenance as needed
  • Responds to after hours and weekends emergencies
  • Must work under emergency responses during and or after any city emergency event. Example: Hurricanes, tropical storms, ice storms or any other city emergency
  • Performs with a professional mindset and able to lead a team, if necessary
  • C ommunicates with internal and external customers
  • May be asked to perform other duties as assigned

Position Type and Typical Hours of Work

  • Non-Exempt – Full-Time
  • Rotating 40-hour work week, 24-hour shifts, 7 days a week
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement
  • In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Four (4) years of experience

Licenses and Certifications

Required

  • Register with FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse if candidate has CDL
  • A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire

Required within six (6) months of hire

  • Traffic Control & Flagging certification
  • Confined Space certification
  • Trenching & Shoring certification

Required within one (1) year of hire

  • City Leadership Program

Preferred

  • Valid Texas Class A Commercial Driver's License

Basis of Rating

A recruitment consultant will evaluate all applications against the posted qualifications and may request additional information. The city may also conduct additional skill assessment tests, in addition to the panel interview
