Pay range: $18/hr - $20/hr

Schedule: Mon – Fri

Job Overview:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to manage the billing and accounts receivable lifecycle. This role is responsible for billing medical claims, applying cash payments, and working the aged trial balance to resolve and resubmit claims. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver with a strong background in insurance claims.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Billing & Claims:
  • Research and resolve insurance denials for proper and timely claim resubmission.
  • Work pre-bill queries to ensure claims are sent accurately to minimize denials.
  • Analyze open receivable trends, including payment frequency and root cause analysis.
  • Run and work various system queries for research and analysis in Microsoft Excel.
  • Cash Application & Processing:
  • Apply cash in a timely manner to outstanding invoices.
  • Research and apply payments for both Payers and Members.
  • Identify and document partial payments and denials.
  • Complete documentation for setting up EFTs.
  • Accounts Receivable & Analysis:
  • Analyze collections data and develop projects based on financial risk by Payer.
  • Quickly summarize outstanding accounts receivable issues and provide solutions.
  • Support the collection of receivables, including write-offs and monthly aged trial balance analysis.
  • Team Support & Training:
  • Train associates on transaction processing and system use.
  • Serve as a point of contact for questions regarding cash processes and document management systems.
  • Attend meetings to provide insight on processes for internal or external stakeholders.
  • Assist Supervisor with special projects and training as needed.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
  • Team and performance oriented.
  • Understands and honors a high level of confidentiality.
  • Knowledgeable in continuous improvement.

Mandatory Requirements (Non-negotiable):

  • Minimum of 3 years of recent and relevant experience in vision claims coding and billing.
  • Proven experience with cash application (posting payments).
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience working aged trial balances (fixing and resubmitting claims).

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with medical billing in addition to vision billing.
  • Knowledge of vision and/or insurance benefits.
  • Previous experience in a claims processing environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
