Kitchen Assistant

Neighborhood House Association is seeking a full-time Kitchen Assistant for its busy, high volume kitchen. The Kitchen Assistant will also act as a Meals on Wheels Congregate Site Manager. The position is 6:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. The first main duty of this position is helping the kitchen staff prepare, cook, and serve meals to meet requirements of all programs. This includes ensuring food is cooked properly, has good presentation, and is ready for timely delivery and service, while maintaining compliance with health department standards.

Additionally, this position will be responsible for the management of a Congregate meal site. A Neighborhood House vehicle would be provided for all transportation purposes within the scope of this position.

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• Minimum one year experience in quantity food preparation
• Food Manager Certification
• Two years of driving experience, preferably on professional basis
• Ability to operate a motor vehicle with valid driver's license
• Pass a criminal background check and have a clean driving record
• Own an operational, licensed, and insured vehicle with minimum of $100,000/$300,000 bodily injury & $100,000 property coverage
• Ability to effectively interact and work with diverse staff and community
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse staff and community
• Ability to maintain client, employee, and program confidentiality
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds

POSITION ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

• Prepare and cook meals to meet requirements of all food service programs
• Assure that daily nutrition requirements are fulfilled per funding and regulatory sources
• Ensure that food is cooked properly, has good presentation, correct serving proportions, and ready for timely delivery & service
• Assure that all food is stored properly and labeled with correct date & time
• Maintain compliance with Peoria County Health Department inspection standards
• Maintain clean kitchen surface areas and equipment during and after meal preparation
• Maintain food and supply inventories for the youth feeding programs
• Maintain a pleasant atmosphere which helps participants feel comfortable and welcome at congregate site
• Ensure that food and milk are properly temped at time of arrival and just prior to serving at congregate site
• Train volunteers in proper food handling and clean-up at congregate site
• Manage participant contribution box at congregate site and forward to Finance Department on daily basis
• Complete all program paperwork daily (volunteer hours, meals served, food temp, etc.) at congregate site
• Coordinate informational programs which follow Department of Aging guidelines at congregate site
• Assure cleanliness of food service area and equipment used for program needs at congregate site

POSITION ANCILLARY DUTIES:

• Meal prep for upcoming meal service days
• Deliver meals to off-site programs in absence of regular delivery staff
• Assist the Dishwasher with cleaning and storing dishes/equipment as needed
• Notify MOW Director or Assistant of any needs and/or changes as each occurs

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.00 per hour
