Job Summary:
The teacher will provide direct instruction to students in accordance with each of their Individual Education Plans. Candidates must hold a New Jersey State certification as a Teacher of the Handicapped, Teacher of Students with Disabilities, and be highly qualified in the area of instruction.
Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in ongoing quality improvement activities including but not limited to: serving as a member of a quality improvement team, customer input, incident/accident and client grievance review, peer record review and program evaluation/quality improvement projects
- Maintain accurate daily attendance records and perform other record keeping functions
- Maintain appropriate classroom discipline and provision of an atmosphere conducive to learning
- Participate in the development of each child's Individual Education Plan
- Selection and ordering of appropriate instructional equipment and materials
- Prepare quarterly evaluations, Progress Reports and Report Cards for each student in relation to his/her IEP goals and objectives
- Attend staff meetings and meetings with parents and/or school district personnel
- Maintain a neat, clean and orderly classroom and properly secure the classroom at the end of each school day
- Communicate students' daily performance to residential and clinical staff
- Oversee Paraprofessionals assigned to their classroom and ensure that they comply with school policy and procedures
- Deliver curriculum to students utilizing a learning center model of instruction, whereby students are provided with individualized and small group instruction and remediation
- Serve and actively participate as a member of School Committees (i.e. Curriculum,
- Professional Development and Safety).
- Provide direct management and supervision of students in non-instructional settings such
- as hallways, library, dining room, etc.
- Participate and assist with the organization, preparation and implementation on special
- school wide activities/programs (i.e. Graduation, Black History Month, International
- Day, Yearbook, Field Trips, Art Exhibit/Auction, Spelling Bees, Bulletin Board Contests,
- Science Fair and Hispanic Heritage Month).
- Participate in after school and evening school sponsored events (i.e. Open House/Back to
- School Night, Art Exhibit, Auction and Parent Groups) when requested by
- administration.
- Prepare reports and participate in Treatment Team Meetings.
- Build relationships with parents/guardians, families, school districts and social service
- agencies to support student's learning and overall wellbeing.
- Maintain a supportive, safe and respectful learning environment.
- Embrace technology as a tool of learning.
- Provides learning opportunities that support intellectual, social and physical development
- of students.
- Demonstrate teamwork, cooperation and courtesy in the workplace.
- Demonstrate competency in areas on instruction and effectively communicate subject
- matter in an interactive and engaging manner that promotes learning, inquiry, and
- problem solving.
- Document significant incidents and physical restraints involving students utilizing the
- Legacy Treatment Services Critical Incident and Restrictive Behavior Management
- Practice Reporting System.
- Develop meaningful individualized, multisensory and creative lessons that are sensitive
- and responsive to cultural diversity.
- Submit lesson plan book to school principal on a weekly basis for review.
- Escort and provide assistance to students traveling from one location to another location.
- Assist with the delivery of instruction and supervision of students in cosmetology,
- computer and physical education classes.
- Enforce the Student Code of Conduct utilizing the school's Behavior Management
- Program.
- Oversee Paraprofessionals assigned to their classroom and ensure that they comply with
- school policy and procedures.
- Perform all additional duties as assigned by the School Principal.
Qualifications:
- Must hold a New Jersey State certification as a Teacher of the Handicapped, Teacher of Students with Disabilities
- Must be highly qualified in the area of instruction
- Excellent interpersonal and child management skills
- Must maintain yearly 12 hour requirements in behavior management, suicide prevention, substance abuse, and HIV and sexuality
- Must have CARI-CHRI, physical and PPD test completed prior to or upon hire
- Must have physical repeated every three years
- Must attend cultural competence trainings when available and attend ongoing trainings related to population served
- Must possess a valid driver's license
