Semmes, Bowen & Semmes has an immediate opening for a Senior Staff Accountant. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supports day-to-day accounting operations. Assists with general ledger maintenance, account reconciliation, financial reporting, and month-end close processes. Experience working in a law firm is a plus. Semmes is a paperless office environment.

We offer a flexible work environment with options for hybrid work. This position will require you to be in the office 5 days per week for the first days. After 3-6 months of employment, we will consider remote work 1-2 days per week based on performance. Schedule Monday through Friday 9am to 5pm.

Compensation: $70,000 to $90,000 annually (salary exempt position)

Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and software skills (i.e. MS Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
  • This role requires strong attention to detail and organizational skills to support the Firm's financial health.
  • Proficient knowledge of accounting software and proven GAAP knowledge.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Law firm or professional service experience a plus.
  • 2+ years of accounting experience.
  • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring accurate financial reporting.
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliation, including bank statements and general ledger accounts on a regular basis.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including accruals and adjustments.
  • Maintain and update financial records in compliance with Firm policies and accounting standards.
  • Support the preparation of internal and external financial reports.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather financial data and resolve discrepancies.
  • Handle accounts payable, accounts receivable, and cash receipts transactions.
  • Reconcile the Firm's credit card transactions for posting to the general ledger.
