Summary/Objective: The Senior Accountant is responsible for the general ledger and properly performing all financial activities related to financial reporting, financial profitability, analysis, and other special projects as assigned. This position requires a high level of independent judgment, discretion, and application of accounting principles and practices.

Essential Job Functions: Specific duties include, but are not limited, to the following:

Financial Reporting & Analysis

  • Conduct monthly and quarterly account reconciliations to ensure accurate reporting and ledger maintenance.
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts and assist with journal entry preparation.
  • Assist with the preparation and distribution of financial reports, budget comparison reports, and bank reconciliations.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, variations, and deviations; investigate and report findings to the Accounting Supervisor.

Auditing & Compliance

  • Audit and verify financial documents to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Research and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities.
  • Assist in financial audit preparation and coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory guidance and internal policies and procedures.

Inventory Management

  • Lead and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Monitor inventory transactions for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to ensure optimal inventory levels.

Fixed Assets

  • Manage the fixed asset lifecycle, including acquisition, depreciation, and disposal.
  • Maintain accurate fixed asset records and perform regular reconciliations.
  • Prepare reports related to fixed assets for management and external stakeholders.

Process Improvement & Documentation

  • Document Senior Accountant procedures and maintain internal accounting standards.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency within the accounting function.
  • Contribute to department and organization on special projects as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.

Travel: Little to no travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree in accounting or related field
  • 3 years of experience in an accounting role
  • Combination of education and experience considered in lieu of requirements.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. This is a largely sedentary role; however, standing, sitting, walking, bending, and being able to lift 50 pounds safely is required.

Position Type: This is a full-time, exempt position that is expected to work independently and proactively to meet deadlines and departmental goals. This position regularly requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment regarding matters of significance.

Expected Hours of Work: Days and hours of work are primarily Monday through Friday, 8:00a to 4:30p. However, evening and weekend hours are required as job duties demand. This position may require work outside of standard business hours to meet critical deadlines.
