Over the last 40 years, the Food Bank has expanded its scope of services building on partnerships with hunger-relief organizations while at the same time bringing new programs and services to alleviate hunger and provide education and training. With locations in both Newark and Milford, the Food Bank, a member of Feeding America, will continue to expand and extend its programs and services to communities in its quest to create a community free of hunger.

Position Summary

The Workforce Training Director is responsible for the leadership and management of the Delaware Food Works (DFW) Workforce Training Programs, including but not limited to development and instruction of the life skills curriculum, recruitment and screening of potential Delaware Food Works students; maintenance of current and new sources of funding and scholarships; maintaining and updating all information regarding student placement and long term tracking, as well as the development and maintenance of all relationships with DVR/DOL counselors and other student referral sources. This position provides day-to-day coaching and case management for students when needed. The position will develop a strong relationship with the Finance department and ensure all Workforce Development financial information is up to date. This is a Safety Sensitive position.

Major Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Supervision of case management of DFW staff including the Workforce Training Coordinators and Operations Instructors. This includes:

  • Oversight and maintenance of all students' progress through Delaware Food Works Programs from outreach and screening through training, graduation, job placement and alumni relations.

  • Development and implementation of a recruitment and screening plan to identify potential students for the Workforce Training programs.

  • Coordinate with the DFW Team to ensure a "seamless" transition from screening and interview to training.

  • Development and implementation of life skills program that includes a total plan for career decision making processes for DFW students, including formalized career assessments, one-on-one counseling, referrals to other agencies, resume writing and scheduling guest speakers.

  • Ensure students receive coaching through their job search, work experience and employment placement to ensure an appropriate placement for their knowledge, skills and interests.

  • Responsible for working with the team to identify student behaviors or conditions that may create a barrier to employment; develop a plan for alleviating those barriers utilizing all internal and external resources.

  • Responsible for overseeing the handling and recording of all student behavior and personal issues inside and outside of the classroom that may arise and possibly interfere with the class or an individual's training and job placement.

  • Coordinate third party transportation to transport students to bus stops and/or field trips as needed. May need to drive DFW van safely to transport students to bus stops and/or field trips on occasion.

  • Appropriately track student barrier reduction expenses.

  • Collaborate with Delaware Food Works team to coordinate graduation ceremonies for DFW students.

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining strong working partnerships with other relevant organizations, agencies and businesses to solicit student referrals, funding sources, guest speakers and field trips.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with businesses and organizations to provide work experience and employment opportunities for students and alumni.

  • Partner with community agencies providing GED and high school diploma services for this population providing necessary assistance for completion while in the program and beyond if necessary.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with all student referral organizations (DOL/DVR, etc.) ensuring that DFW stays in compliance with all student referral agencies rules and guidelines, including all formal and informal reporting, meeting with agencies as requested, and a contact for all counselors regarding general student information as well as all financial (billing and payment) information.

Responsible for maintaining and reporting data related to program performance:

  • Directly responsible for all data collection and program evaluation assigned for this position, including job placement information, student tracking information, internship information, financial data (internal and external) and formalized intake and exit survey information.

  • Creating and maintaining current documents that are easily accessible by all FBD staff (with the information stated above) and providing reports as necessary.

  • Develop and monitor program budget and expenses.

  • Recruitment, training and performance management of staff.

  • Identifying and communicating needs related to professional and/or organizational development to senior leadership.

  • Maintain Proctor Certifications for ServSafe Food Protection Manager, MSSC and CASAS.

  • Ensures that Delaware Food Works maintains its status as a certified trade school.

  • Responsible for working as part of a team as well as being able to work independently in all aspects of the position.

  • Collaborate with the DFW Team and members of senior leadership to ensure timely and accurate completion of all tasks, as well as discuss any current or new ideas, thoughts, or suggestions that will improve or enhance any aspect of DFW.

Qualities and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Human Services, Training/Development, or a related field. Or relevant experience in lieu of degree.

  • Two (2) years of related experience in human services, workforce development or training management

  • Experience managing Delaware Department of Labor workforce development contracts is strongly preferred

  • Demonstrated ability to foster a respectful and collaborative working environment with all Food Bank of Delaware partners, students, and neighbors.

  • ServSafe Food Protection Manager Proctor Certified or ability to be certified within 3 months of employment.

  • MSSC Proctor Certified or ability to be certified within 3 months of employment.

  • Certified to administer the CASAS or ability to be certified within 3 months of employment.

  • Exemplary customer service skills, communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

  • Demonstrated ability in both written and verbal communications and listening skills.

  • Strong leadership/management skills.

  • Solid acumen in the Microsoft Office suite of programs.

  • Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize multiple projects

  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule.

  • Able to work some evenings and weekends as needed.

  • A valid driver's license for the past three years; clean driving record (no points or moving violation within the last three years).

  • Spanish language fluency/proficiency, both oral and written, preferred

Physical Requirements

  • Working at a computer workstation, generally with a monitor, will be required

  • The role will occasionally be exposed to warehouse and commercial kitchen environments

  • All roles may require sitting, bending, lifting (up to 20 pounds), squatting and other minimal physical activity

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68, $80,000.00 per year
