As the APP Supervisor, you will lead the Advanced Practice Providers (Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants) who staff our high-volume Orthopedic Injury Urgent Care (OIUC) and Orthopedics Trauma Services.

This role is a pivotal blend of expert clinical practice and essential team leadership in a dynamic pediatric environment. You will be instrumental in the expansion of the APP Trauma program and ensuring the highest-quality, safest care for the 41,000+ patients our Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Program sees each year.

I. Leadership & Program Oversight (Approx. 20% FTE)

The APP Supervisor is a critical leadership role responsible for guiding a team of APPs (NPs/PAs) across the OIUC and Trauma services to deliver the highest levels of quality, service, and cost-effective care.

  • Supervision & Management: Oversee and support APPs practicing in both the OIUC and Trauma roles.
  • Program Growth: Support the strategic growth and ongoing success of the APP trauma program.
  • Professional Development: Develop and coordinate clinical orientation, continued competency, and optimal professional development initiatives for the NP/PA team.
  • Hiring & Recruitment: Lead the hiring process for APPs in collaboration with service line leaders and clinical teams.
  • Representation & Communication: Represent the APPs at both the division/service line/value stream and APP leadership group levels, ensuring communication and coordination of organizational and departmental goals.
  • Quality & Improvement: Drive continuous performance improvement, quality improvement, education, and research efforts delivered by the APP team.

II. Clinical Role (Approx. 80% FTE)

The supervisor will maintain an active, high-level clinical practice, ensuring care is specifically tailored for young bodies and their growth plates, as a key member of the interdisciplinary team.

  • Direct Patient Care: Provide direct care and assume primary responsibility for clinical management of pediatric patients (babies through young adults) in ambulatory, ED, OR, and/or inpatient settings.
  • Clinical Excellence: Serve as a role model for excellent clinical practice and continuous advancement of knowledge and skills.
  • Comprehensive Practice: Obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans. This includes managing urgent injuries (sprains, strains, broken bones) treated within the OIUC.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Direct or participate in case management and continuing care. Collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, specialists, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high-quality care.

Required Education and Experience:

Master's degree in nursing with a concentration in a pediatric or family nurse practitioner program OR graduate of a nationally accredited physician assistant program.

Three years of work experience in a pediatric or family focused clinical area.

Required Credentials:

For Nurse Practitioners:

Active, unencumbered registered nurse and advanced registered nurse practitioner licensure in the State of Washington.

Current national certification as a pediatric or family nurse practitioner

For Physician Assistants:

Active, unencumbered physician assistant licensure in the State of Washington

Initial certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants

For All Providers:

Active Drug Enforcement Authority registration

Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Professionals is required at time of hire and to be maintained continuously throughout employment. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) will also be accepted in lieu of BLS for Healthcare Professionals.

Some clinical locations may require American Heart Association Pediatric Life Support training and continuous maintenance of certification.

Active clinical privileges as an Allied Health Provider at Seattle Children's Hospital must be secured prior to time of hire and must be maintained in good standing and in compliance with all medical staff bylaws, continuously throughout employment.

Any and all medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's will terminate automatically upon the termination of the individual's employment at Children's. Termination of employment does not prohibit the individual from seeking medical or allied health professional staff privileges at Children's as a non-employee in any category for which the individual qualifies. Questions regarding medical or allied health professional staff privileges may be directed to Medical Staff Services.

Preferred

Experience in a leadership or health care management role.

Five years experience in the NP role.

Three years experience in pediatric health care.

Compensation Range

$131,821 - $193,872 per year

This position is eligible for an annual 10% Supervisor Stipend for the added leadership responsibilities. This stipend will increase the total compensation of this role by an additional $13,182.10 to $19,387.20 per year.

Salary Information

This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
