The Role
Based at our Cambridge, MA site with an occasional presence in Norwood, MA, this position will provide space planning, strategy, and programming services across the portfolio. As our Manager of Space Planning, you will provide operational oversight of day-to-day space planning responsibilities while serving as a mentor, coach, and trusted advisor to both internal colleagues and our extended service provider partners. You will ensure high standards of execution, foster team accountability, and champion a culture of collaboration and excellence.

This role will closely partner with CMC, EH&S, Real Estate, Workplace, Facilities and Engineering to optimize office environments and ensure alignment with Moderna's broader workplace strategy. Reporting to the Director of Space Planning, you will play a central role in advancing data accuracy, operational excellence, and team development, supporting Moderna's mission to deliver a best-in-class workplace experience.

Here's What You'll Do

  • Provide leadership and oversight for the Space Planning & Workplace Design team, ensuring smooth execution of daily planning activities
  • Serve as a mentor and team leader, fostering a culture of growth, accountability, and collaboration
  • Act as a trusted advisor to our extended service provider team, providing direction, guidance, and clear expectations
  • Manage and facilitate bi-weekly team meetings, ensuring active participation and accountability for project updates and deliverables
  • Oversee space planning operations across office, supporting organizational changes, seating assignments, moves, and space utilization projects
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of all workplace data across platforms (OfficeSpace, VergeSense, dashboards, reporting tools), supporting data-driven decision-making
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure alignment of workplace solutions with corporate goals and evolving business needs
  • Support the development and execution of workplace design solutions that enhance employee experience and operational efficiency
  • Identify and remove barriers to team and vendor success while holding all stakeholders accountable for delivering high-quality results
  • Model and encourage positive, highly collaborative leadership methods while effectively navigating difficult or sensitive situations
  • Exhibit leadership qualities with peers and outsourced resources within the Space Planning/ Services organization
  • Partner with key stakeholders to build trust to create quality workspace solutions

Here's What You'll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree in Facility Management, Interior Design, Space Planning, or Architecture
  • 5+ years of directly related Space planning experience in pharmaceutical, biotech or manufacturing environments
  • 1-2 years of Management/Mentorship experience
  • Specialized knowledge / skills: ability to read and understand SD, DD and CD sets - MEP, Furniture & Equipment specifications
  • Solid understanding of the construction industry, terminology, codes, documentation, and design disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across partner functions
  • Has had success in identifying and resolving risks; experience with strategic scenario planning and management
  • Excellent negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Proven ability on strategic planning and managing operational challenges
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, CAFM/IWMS systems

Here's What You'll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Experience with sensor technology (e.g., VergeSense), space utilization data, and reporting/dashboard creation
  • Strong communication skills (oral, written, presentation) with proven ability to actively listen, resolve conflict, and navigate sensitive conversations
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong commitment to data accuracy
  • Knowledge of workplace strategy and design principles, including lab planning experience (a plus)
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with the ability to mediate issues and remove barriers effectively

The salary range for this role is $109, $174, This is the lowest to highest salary we in good faith believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An individual's position within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, specific competencies, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, performance, and business or organizational needs.

The successful candidate may be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, other incentive compensation, or equity award, subject to company plan eligibility criteria and individual performance.
