Role Summary
We are seeking an Expert-Level PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to lead large-scale database modernization and migration initiatives across hybrid and multi-cloud environments — with a primary focus on Google Cloud (AlloyDB, Cloud SQL). This role combines deep PostgreSQL expertise, Oracle-to-Postgres migration leadership, and the ability to architect and execute complex multi-cloud transformation projects. The ideal candidate is both a hands-on database engineer and a strategic technical leader, capable of driving modernization across global enterprise environments.
What You Will Do:PostgreSQL Administration & Engineering
- Act as the PostgreSQL Subject Matter Expert (SME) across the organization, leading architecture, performance tuning, automation, and high-availability strategies.
- Design, implement, and manage PostgreSQL clusters in Google Cloud (AlloyDB, Cloud SQL).
- Configure and support replication, HA/DR (streaming, logical, Patroni), backup, recovery, and failover mechanisms.
- Automate key administrative tasks using Python, Bash, Ansible, Terraform, and integrate with CI/CD pipelines for continuous delivery and change management.
- Implement and integrate with Ensono and Client proactive monitoring and observability frameworks (Google/AWS-native tools, Data Dog, BMC) to ensure high performance and uptime.
- Lead end-to-end migration efforts from Oracle to PostgreSQL/AlloyDB — including assessment, schema conversion, data transformation, validation, and tuning.
- Leverage tools like Ora2Pg, AWS SCT/DMS, and custom migration frameworks to automate and streamline migration tasks.
- Refactor PL/SQL to PL/pgSQL, optimize data models, and ensure application compatibility in the target PostgreSQL environments.
- Develop and maintain migration playbooks, cutover procedures, and validation checklists to standardize enterprise migration efforts.
- Collaborate with Client application and internal infrastructure teams to coordinate testing, downtime planning, and post-migration performance validation.
- Collaborate with Clients to Architect and support Google Cloud Platform database solutions — including AlloyDB, Cloud SQL Cloud Compute, and BigQuery integration.
- Define Infrastructure as Code (IaC) standards using Terraform and Ansible for repeatable, secure provisioning and configuration.
- Partner with Client and Ensono cloud, security, and networking teams to ensure compliance with IAM, encryption, audit logging, and retention policies.
- Drive capacity planning, cost optimization, and performance benchmarking across all supported cloud environments for the Client.
- Provide technical leadership and direction for complex database migration and modernization projects.
- Mentor DBA teams, review designs, and establish technical best practices for PostgreSQL, AlloyDB, and cloud databases.
- Contribute to strategic planning for enterprise database modernization and automation initiatives.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation, runbooks, and operational standards for the DBA organization.
- Strong understanding of Oracle Database administration (11g–19c), PL/SQL, and Data Guard/RMAN principles.
- Experience with Oracle GoldenGate for replication and data synchronization during migration and hybrid coexistence.
- Ability to design, test, and optimize replication pipelines and cutover strategies using GoldenGate and PostgreSQL logical replication.
- Familiarity with Oracle licensing, cost management, and performance optimization a strong plus.
