The General Services Department (GSD) supports the operations of state government by providing essential services, including procurement, risk management, facilities management, transportation services, and printing services. The Facilities Management Division (FMD) is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and renovation of state-owned buildings and facilities. FMD ensures that state workplaces are safe, functional, and sustainable, supporting the daily operations of government agencies across New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?
This position provides strategic leadership and technical guidance for the Operations and Maintenance (OandM) Bureau within the Facilities Management Division. The Bureau Chief oversees building maintenance and facility operations for state owned properties, ensuring they are safe, efficient and compliant with life safety codes.
How does it get done?
Key responsiblites:
- Lead and manage the statewide Operations and Maintenance Bureau in coordination with FMD leadership.
- Develop and implement strategic goals, policies and procedures for building operations and maintenance.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of staff and provide training as needed.
- Oversee facility operations, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with life safety codes across state owned properties.
- Manage and monitor bureau and statewide OandM budgets.
- Coordinate with tenants and respond to emergencies, work requests and customer service needs.
- Identify and address deficiencies in building systems.
- Ensure timely resolution of facility requests and support for agency operations.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study from an accredited college or university and eight (8) years of professional level experience with a tactical impact directly related to the purpose of the position defined by the agency at the time of recruitment. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling twelve (12) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico. or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment. Employment is subject to post offer pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.
Working Conditions
Must be able to lift 25lbs, stand for extended periods of time, climb ladders, work in inclement weather (cold and hot) Must be able to shovel snow and carry tools and equipment from building to building on large campuses. Will be on "on call" for emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
