Position Overview
We are conducting a confidential search for a Vice President / Director of Construction to provide executive leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for a growing construction business unit. This role is ideal for a seasoned construction leader with deep commercial expertise and the ability to mentor a team, expand market presence, and drive operational excellence across Connecticut and New York.
The successful candidate will oversee construction operations, guide project management teams, ensure consistent project delivery, and play a key role in the company's expansion strategy across the region. This is a high-impact leadership position with significant visibility, autonomy, and growth opportunity.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Leadership & Strategy
- Provide senior-level leadership for all construction operations across CT and NY.
- Partner with executive leadership to set annual goals, financial targets, and operational KPIs.
- Develop and execute strategic plans to expand the company's market presence in commercial construction and select high-end residential sectors.
- Identify new business opportunities, client partnerships, and revenue channels to support growth.
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead, manage, and mentor a team of 6–7 Project Managers.
- Foster a high-performance culture built on accountability, transparency, safety, and continuous improvement.
- Support workforce planning, resource allocation, and project forecasting to optimize team performance.
Project & Operational Management
- Oversee multiple, concurrent large-scale construction projects across commercial (restoration, interiors, retail, office, institutional, light industrial) and limited residential segments.
- Manage full project lifecycle—from preconstruction, estimating, and budgeting through execution, closeout, and client transition.
- Ensure projects meet profitability goals, schedule milestones, quality standards, and client expectations.
- Monitor project controls, risk management practices, and operational performance.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Represent the company with professionalism and integrity in all client, vendor, and community interactions.
- Strengthen relationships with new and existing clients to increase repeat business and regional footprint.
- Support negotiation of contracts, scopes of work, and subcontractor agreements as needed.
Qualifications
Required
- 10+ years of progressive experience in construction management.
- 5+ years in a senior leadership role (Director, VP, Senior PM, Operations Lead).
- Strong background in commercial construction:
- Restoration
- Interiors / Fit-outs
- Retail
- Office
- Institutional
- Light industrial
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex, concurrent projects.
- Deep understanding of construction operations, financial management, project controls, and scheduling.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Willingness to travel throughout Connecticut and New York.
Preferred
- Experience with high-end residential construction (plus).
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (Master's preferred).
- Experience scaling or growing business units.
