Senior Data Scientist
, where you'll own the development of advanced models and AI-powered solutions that inform strategy and fuel transformation across Cengage.

In this highly collaborative and strategic role, you'll work across business units to design behavioral models, predictive algorithms, and scalable analytics frameworks. Your insights will empower teams in product, marketing, operations, and finance to make smarter, faster decisions

What You'll Do

  • Design, build, and scale advanced analytics models for behavioral insights, pricing optimization, retention, and other enterprise use cases.
  • Own the development of machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and generative AI solutions aligned with business priorities.
  • Translate complex business challenges into data science approaches that are scalable, explainable, and actionable.
  • Partner with business leaders to co-create analytics roadmaps, define success metrics, and drive adoption of data-driven solutions.
  • Collaborate with analytics and technology teams to ensure data readiness and seamless model deployment.
  • Mentor junior data scientists and promote standard methodologies in ethical AI, model development, and reproducibility.
  • Communicate insights clearly and persuasively to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI with a track record of delivering business impact.
  • Advanced degree (masters or Ph.D.) in Data Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • Deep expertise in behavioral modeling, discrete choice modeling, clustering, forecasting, and optimization.
  • Proficiency in Python or R, with experience using ML/AI libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Hugging Face.
  • Demonstrated success developing and deploying generative AI, NLP models, or recommendation systems.
  • Strong ability to engage with partners, define use cases, and scale solutions from proof-of-concept to production.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to tailor insights to diverse audiences.
  • A proactive approach with a strong sense of ownership, accountability, and a bias for action.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous environments and leading multiple projects with varying timelines.
  • Passion for collaboration and a desire to elevate analytics maturity across the organization.
  • Experience in education technology is a plus, but not required.

The full base pay range has been provided for this position. Individual base pay will vary based on work schedule, qualifications, experience, internal equity, and geographic location. Sales roles often incorporate a significant incentive compensation program beyond this base pay range.
