The specialist will be responsible for the technical operations from the operating system upward, collaborating with infrastructure teams to address service-level issues, optimize configuration, and maintain robust databases. The ideal candidate excels at translating complex business and technical requirements into effective solutions, leading integration initiatives, and proactively supporting the stability and scalability of core support applications. While this candidate will be a Spok SME, they will not be limited to strictly Spok solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Administer Spok and other core support application infrastructure from the OS level up
  • Monitor and troubleshoot application and service-level issues, collaborating with infrastructure teams responsible for underlying OS, virtualization, and storage layers.
  • Manage application patching, configuration, logging, and performance tuning of application environments.
  • Maintain databases supporting Spok and other core support applications.
  • Coordinate with application and technical teams to initiate and complete required technical and security reviews.
  • Work directly with clinical operators, call center staff, nursing, IT, and other stakeholders to understand workflows and operational pain points.
  • Represent the technical application team in dealings with 3rd party vendors for support needs and project work.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications, enhancement requests, and configuration changes within Spok, BeyondTrust, and other core support applications as needed.
  • Lead or participate in discovery sessions, documentation, and design for new use cases, integrations, and optimizations.
  • Be a technical mentor to junior application analysts
  • Assist with support and troubleshooting of Spok Operator Console and CTI workstations; coordinate with on-site teams when physical support is required.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as needed for major incidents, upgrades, and standard after-hours support.
  • Act as the technical lead on application upgrades and/or enhancement projects.
  • Manage all Emory-controlled application-level SSL/TLS certificates; coordinate with vendor and internal infrastructure teams for managed certificates.
  • Ensure encryption, authentication, and trust-chain configurations are properly maintained in compliance with organizational security standards.
  • Collaborate with network and telecom engineering teams to define and maintain firewall rules, DNS records, IP addressing, and telephony integration parameters for application infrastructure.
  • Support integration with PBX, CTI workstations, and paging systems.
  • Troubleshoot, configure, and support API integrations with clinical systems, identity platforms, and mobile device management (MDM) solutions.
  • Ensure data integrity and operational continuity across application interfaces with Epic, ServiceNow, Active Directory, and other related systems.
  • Provide technical support for Spok Mobile and other mobile app versions on iOS and Android, including authentication, device registration, push notifications, and endpoint policy enforcement.
  • Collaborate with the MDM team to support deployment, updates, and security posture of Spok Mobile and other mobile app clients.
  • Stay abreast of respective industry and system trends to ensure awareness of future functionality and release information.
  • Be an active contributor to the respective application's community and collaborate with peers at other institutions.
  • Ability to sustain a high level of autonomy and independence, while navigating and adhering to all Emory Healthcare policies and standards.
  • Serve as a technical partner with assigned Project Managers/Program Managers.
  • Foster and maintain strong professional relationships with peers and colleagues across the organization.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major course work in computer science, Information Technology, engineering, or equivalent related experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in application systems/administration OR 9 years' experience without a degree.

  • Experience with Spok software suites (Spok Mobile, Smart Console, Smart Web, On-Call, Messenger, e.Notify, etc.).
  • Experience with BeyondTrust Remote Support.
