TDI Technologies, Inc. (TDI) is seeking candidates for a
Mechanical Engineer
position with a strong background in acoustics and vibration to join our engineering team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with a proven ability to perform hands-on testing, data analysis, and technical reporting in both laboratory and field environments. This role is critical to supporting R&D efforts through advanced testing, fixture design, and in-depth analysis of acoustic and vibration phenomena.

Principal Duties/Responsibilities

  • Prepare cost estimates for operational and flow related test planning, test execution, data analysis and technical report preparation in support of Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW) and hull mechanical and electrical systems (HM&E) subsystem component evaluation.
  • Provide test site design guidance, support test scheduling, develop test procedures, support/attend test readiness reviews, and collect and analyze test data.
  • Complete documentation packages and provide oversight for all Mission Readiness Panels documentation and reviews to ensure compliance and light off of test facilities.
  • Collaborate with the C/324 Fluid/Acoustic Labs Subject Matter Experts and engineering team to design repair, install, modify, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HM&E systems and subsystem components such as valves, CORDs, and other Navy HM&E components.
  • Utilize C324 Data Acquisition Systems to set up test instrumentation and record data during test execution periods.
  • Evaluate acoustic data from fluid-borne, structure-borne, and air-borne noise sources acquired during operational testing at test sites for compliance with operational thresholds.
  • Prepare and review technical reports post-test and present results to program management.

Requirements
Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of mechanical engineering with a focus on acoustics and vibration.
  • Hands-on testing experience in both laboratory and field environments, including acoustic and vibration data collection as well as modal analysis.
  • Proven ability to work independently, including designing and fabricating test fixtures for R&D type lab testing.
  • Proficient in using MATLAB or Python for signal processing and analysis of test data.
  • Experienced in writing technical documents to summarize test results and analysis.

Special Requirements

  • Successful applicants must either have an active government security clearance or the ability to receive approval upon position acceptance. Due to the nature of our work with the U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. citizenship is required. Some positions may require the renunciation of any non-U.S. citizenship to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Must have a valid US passport or the ability to obtain one upon position acceptance.

Skills And Abilities
Essential Skills:

  • Proficiency in developing and conducting tests of complex electrical and mechanical systems
  • Familiarity with MATLAB, Simulink and data acquisition systems (Brüel & Kjær, LMS Test.Lab)
  • Results-oriented and motivated to provide solutions with measurable benefit to our customers
  • Ability to communicate complex analysis with clarity and precision
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired Skills / Certifications

  • Shipboard or industrial experience with mechanical machinery systems, testing, troubleshooting, and repair is preferred.
  • US Navy HM&E experience

Travel

  • Ability to travel periodically to vendor sites to perform acoustic and vibration testing on machinery components.
