Description

Role:

The Bookstore Associate is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, assisting with day-to-day store operations, and supporting sales of school supplies, merchandise, and other bookstore items. The associate helps maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Answer questions regarding merchandise, pricing, and store policies.
  • Operate the cash register, handle transactions, and process payments accurately.
  • Assist with inventory control, including cycle counts and stock replenishment.
  • Maintain store cleanliness, including organizing shelves and displays.
  • Promote campus gear, supplies, and store promotions to increase sales.
  • Follow store procedures for loss prevention and security.

Performance Measurements:

  1. To provide excellent customer service.
  2. To balance register & vault daily without errors.
  3. To maintain the highest quality of integrity with regards to all paperwork.
Qualifications

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience: Two years to five years of similar or related experience.

Education: High School diploma or GED equivalent.

Interpersonal Skills: Courtesy, tact, diplomacy, and confidentiallity are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.

Other Skills: Experience in college retail is strongly preferred. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills are necessary. Computer proficiency and familiarity with word-processing and database software is required. Retail, cashier, or customer service experience preferred. Basic computer skills and ability to use a point-of-sale (POS) system. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and peak periods (e.g., start of semester, finals, sporting events).

Physical Requirements: Generally requires light work with occasional lifting of 30 pounds or more, carrying supplies, books, etc. The job requires varying amounts of sitting, climbing, kneeling, standing and walking.

Work Environment: Work is generally performed in an indoor setting.
