Jumpstart is a national early education nonprofit working toward the day every child in America enters kindergarten prepared to succeed. We provide evidence-based language, literacy, and life skills programming to preschool children from underserved communities, delivered by a broad network of trained college students and community volunteers. Since our founding in 1993, Jumpstart has supported over 209,000 children and mobilized more than 71,000 volunteers. Position Overview
The
Regional Director
plays a critical role in advancing Jumpstart's mission locally while aligning with our national strategy. This leader is responsible for setting the regional vision, building and sustaining strong public and private partnerships, and ensuring Jumpstart's programs and initiatives are deeply rooted in and responsive to community needs.

Regional Directors serve as chief ambassadors for Jumpstart in their market, cultivating partnerships with preschool systems, school districts, higher education institutions, government agencies, and community organizations. They partner closely with the Managing Director of Program Management and local program staff to ensure high-quality implementation, while also driving regional revenue and public funding strategies in collaboration with the Revenue & Growth Strategy team.

This role is ideal for a community-driven, strategic, entrepreneurial, and relationship-centered leader with experience navigating complex ecosystems, engaging diverse stakeholders, and delivering measurable impact at the community level.

Key Responsibilities
Regional Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and lead a regional strategy that reflects local needs while aligning with Jumpstart's mission and priorities, ensuring both financial sustainability and program growth.
  • Act as the primary local representative of Jumpstart, elevating brand visibility and influence within the early childhood ecosystem.
  • Partner with local teams to identify community needs, build relationships with key stakeholders, and align programs with regional priorities.

Partnerships & External Engagement

  • Cultivate and steward new and existing relationships with preschool partners, school districts, higher education institutions, nonprofits, and civic leaders across the region.
  • Represent Jumpstart in local coalitions, task forces, and public forums, positioning the organization as a leader in the early learning and broader education ecosystems.
  • Develop and manage a Local Champions Board in partnership with the Revenue & Strategic Growth team, leveraging volunteer leadership to build influence and resources.
  • Elevate success stories and insights from communities to inform organizational strategy and advocacy.

Public Funding & Resource Development

  • Identify, pursue, and help secure public funding streams, including state and municipal grants
  • Partner with the Revenue & Strategic Growth team to cultivate and steward major donors, institutional funders, and corporate partners.
  • Support signature campaigns and events such as Read for the Record and local donor engagement opportunities.

Program Integration & Quality

  • Champion Jumpstart's program priorities in the region, ensuring they are understood, embraced, and well-positioned for success.
  • Cultivate and strengthen relationships with preschool partners, higher education institutions, and other community-based organizations, ensuring their needs are heard and addressed in collaboration with program teams.
  • Support alignment between regional strategy and program implementation plans by partnering closely with the Managing Director of Program Management and Local Program Implementation Managers.
  • Help identify regional opportunities for innovation or partnerships that enhance program quality and reach.

Organizational Leadership

  • Serve as a key member of Jumpstart's leadership cohort, contributing to organizational priorities beyond the region.
  • Model, contribute to, and champion a culture of equity, inclusion, accountability, and innovation.
  • Manage a Regional Coordinator and ensure effective local operations and events.

Qualifications
Required

  • 10+ years of experience in education leadership, nonprofit management, community engagement, or social impact roles.
  • Proven success in community-driven philanthropy, partnership development, public affairs, and/or revenue generation.
  • Strong relationship-building and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders, including policymakers, funders, partners, educators across the continuum of early education and higher education, and families.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on approach to problem-solving and execution.

Preferred

  • Knowledge of early childhood education systems, higher education, and the intersectional policy landscapes in the region.
  • Experience securing public and philanthropic support.
  • Track record of working across a multi-site or national organization with a place-based impact strategy.
  • Advanced degree in education, public policy, social work, business, or a related field.

Travel
Approximately 15% local and national travel

Salary - $123,000 – 167,000, along with excellent benefits and a great mission-driven work environment
