The Department of Health Services (DHS), Mendota Mental Health Institute (MMHI) is recruiting for a Restorative Justice Provider within the Mendota Juvenile Treatment Center (MJTC). This position will typically work Monday-Friday with daytime hours.
MMHI is located on the north side of Madison and offers a beautiful campus environment, convenient free parking and an onsite workout facility. MMHI is an inpatient psychiatric facility, with one outpatient program, and is an integral part of the entire Wisconsin mental health service delivery system. Our overall service delivery goal is to provide specialized services in treatment, research, training and consultation.

As the Restorative Justice Provider, you are responsible for working directly with MJTC youth in the service delivery of the MJTC Restorative Justice Program. You will play a crucial role in promoting a restorative and healing environment for MJTC youth. This position is responsible for implementing and promoting restorative justice practices and programming and supporting the rehabilitation of youth through individual and group sessions. You will collaborate with various youth and staff to implement restorative justice programming and initiatives that enhance the overall well-being of MJTC youth. This position will make recommendations to the MJTC Restorative Justice Coordinator on curricula, service delivery practices, and policies and protocols on the topic of the MJTC Restorative Justice Program.
Salary InformationThe starting pay is between $28.50 and $34.25 per hour (approximately between $59,280 and $71,240 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits. A 12-month probationary period is required.
Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Human Services Program Coordinator and is in pay schedule and range 07/04.
Job DetailsAll applicants will be required to allow DHS to conduct a background check to determine whether the circumstances of any convictions may be related to the job being filled.
All appointees will be required to receive a TB test, which will be administered by MMHI or medical personnel approved by the facility prior to their start date.
DHS does not sponsor work visas for this position, thus, in compliance with federal law, selected candidates will be required to verify eligibility to work in the United States by completing the required I-9 form upon hire. DHS is not an E-Verify employer nor a STEM-OPT eligible employer.
QualificationsMinimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:
- Experience with the criminal justice system and restorative justice practices.
- Experience working with a multidisciplinary team in a school or secure facility setting.
- Experienced working with criminal justice clients who have mental health disorders.
Well-qualified applicants will also have:
- Formal training or academic course work regarding restorative justice.
- Experience developing or providing education or trainings to clients or employees in a treatment hospital or similar setting.
- Experience conducting or leading meetings and facilitating decision-making.
- Experience coordinating or delivering grievance processes for psychiatrically or behaviorally complex individuals.
