Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Construction Project Accountant to join our team and drive financial excellence across our construction projects. In this role, you will be responsible for managing all accounting functions related to construction activities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, compliance with regulatory standards, and effective project cost control. Your expertise will support the successful delivery of projects by providing clear financial insights and maintaining rigorous accounting practices aligned with industry standards. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to our custom residential projects.

Duties

  • Oversee the full cycle of project accounting, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis for multiple construction projects.
  • Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger entries to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
  • Manage accounts payable and receivable processes specific to construction contracts, ensuring timely payments and collections.
  • Conduct detailed balance sheet reconciliations, bank reconciliations, and project cost tracking to maintain data integrity.
  • Monitor project budgets against actual costs; analyze variances; recommend corrective actions to project managers.
  • Assist in the preparation of financial statements, project cost reports, and other financial reports for internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Support audit processes by providing necessary documentation, facilitating internal controls testing, and implementing audit recommendations.
  • Utilize various accounting software including QuickBooks, Buildertrend, or similar platforms; maintain proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Maintain meticulous records of all financial transactions related to construction projects to ensure transparency and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Proven experience in construction accounting or project-based financial management within corporate or governmental settings.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, accrual accounting principles, double entry bookkeeping, and financial concepts relevant to construction projects.
  • Proficiency in accounting software including QuickBooks, Buildertrend; advanced skills in Microsoft Excel for data analysis are essential.
  • Experience with accounting standards and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Ability to interpret complex financial reports accurately; strong analytical skills for cash flow analysis and forecasting.
  • Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
