The Commissioning Manager - Cox Energy & Sustainability, leads the planning, execution, and documentation of building automation system commissioning activities. Leveraging two decades of hands-on and engineering/programming experience, this role ensures projects meet design intent, operational performance, and customer satisfaction from pre-functional testing through final handover. The Commissioning Manager serves as the technical authority, client liaison, and internal champion for commissioning best practices.

Key Responsibilities

1. Commissioning Leadership

  • Develop, manage, and execute commissioning plans in alignment with project specifications, industry best practices, and company standards.
  • Lead functional testing of BAS, HVAC equipment, and integrated systems, verifying sequences of operation.
  • Direct internal teams, specialists, and subcontractors to achieve schedule and quality objectives.
  • Identify and resolve design, installation, and programming issues in collaboration with engineering and field staff.

  • Project Coordination

  • Interface with project managers, engineers, contractors, and clients to coordinate commissioning activities.

  • Conduct commissioning meetings, issue progress reports, and maintain open communication channels with stakeholders.
  • Ensure all documentation (test forms, deficiency logs, O&M materials) is accurate and complete before turnover.

  • Technical Expertise

  • Review control drawings, sequences, and programming to confirm compliance with design intent.


•Provide mentorship to technicians and junior engineers on troubleshooting, calibration, and system optimization.
•Apply extensive BAS programming and integration knowledge to enhance system performance and interoperability.

  1. Process & Standards Development

  2. Establish company-wide commissioning procedures, templates, and quality control methods.

  3. Recommend improvements to design and installation practices based on commissioning findings.

Qualifications

Required

  • 20+ years BAS experience, including technician, programming, engineering roles.
  • Demonstrated success in leading commissioning on large or complex projects.
  • Expert-level understanding of BAS programming, integration, and HVAC sequences.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to interpret mechanical, electrical, and controls drawings.

Preferred

  • Experience managing commissioning teams or subcontractors.
  • Proficiency in Delta Controls, Siemens, Tridium Niagara.

  • Deficiency resolution turnaround time.
  • Client satisfaction scores on commissioned projects.
