Biomedical Field Service Technician — Hospital Equipment
6 days ago
Join STERIS and help create a healthier, safer world by keeping critical hospital technology up and running.
A day in the lifeYou start your morning reviewing scheduled preventive maintenance, then head to a hospital site in your territory. You diagnose an equipment issue, consult remote Tech Support to validate your approach, complete the repair, and document everything using our digital tools. In the afternoon, you install a field upgrade, share repair options and pricing with the Customer, and coordinate with Sales to ensure an excellent experience. You wrap up by planning tomorrow's route and confirming parts availability.
Where you'll workThis is a remote, Customer-facing role primarily inside hospitals. To support our Customers effectively, you must be based in California and able to serve various facilities within the assigned territory. Schedules are flexible and may include early/late hours and occasional overnights, depending on Customer needs.
What you'll do- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain STERIS and competitor medical equipment, systems, and components.
- Independently prioritize and manage your schedule to complete PMs, service and warranty calls, equipment installations, field upgrades, and related tasks.
- Collaborate with Tech Support, Engineering, and Service Contract Management; use digital platforms to meet compliance requirements and to record/resolve issues.
- Present Customers with information, pricing, and repair options; partner with Sales (with management support) to enhance the Customer experience and identify revenue opportunities.
- Support multiple locations within your territory based on service agreements and Customer needs.
You're mechanically inclined, hands-on, and comfortable working independently while staying connected to a supportive team. Many successful teammates come from HVAC, maintenance, refrigeration, boilers/chillers, diesel/auto, aviation repair, plumbing, or electrical backgrounds.
Requirements- High school diploma or GED and 4+ years of total work experience, including at least 2 years in a mechanical/technical role. An associate degree, related certifications, competitive equipment training, or relevant military experience may count toward the technical requirement.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to meet background and physical assessment elements necessary for vendor credentialing.
- Experience engaging Customers and working effectively with teams.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Basic computer proficiency (Windows, email, navigation, mobile apps, and data entry across multiple systems).
- Ability to work a flexible schedule with potential overnights and early/late hours.
- Market-competitive pay
- Extensive paid time off plus nine additional holidays
- Excellent medical, dental, and vision coverage
- Company vehicle
- Company-issued cell phone and laptop
- Tools, equipment, and uniforms provided
- Short- and long-term disability coverage
- 401(k) with company match
- Maternity and paternal leave
- Optional add-on benefits and discounts (including pet insurance)
- Tuition reimbursement and continued education programs
