Through comprehensive storytelling, the team amplifies Pew's message and crafts tailored materials that resonate with and engage our audiences.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Associate Director of Editorial, the officer serves as a core member of Pew's editorial team, responsible for conceptual and line editing a wide range of products for print and digital platforms. This includes reports, briefs, fact sheets, articles, and other institutional materials as well as scripts and framing text that connect research to broader audiences. In addition to traditional editorial work, the officer will contribute to collaborative teams that bring together editors, designers, multimedia producers, and digital strategists to plan and shape multi-format storytelling projects. Such projects may include video series, podcasts, digital features, and other serialized content that expands Pew's reach and impact.
This position is based in Pew's Washington, DC office, and will participate in Pew's hybrid work program with core days in the office and the flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework "flex weeks" per year.
Responsibilities

- Collaborate with designers, producers, and digital strategists on content that integrates visuals, graphics, and other creative elements.
- Support the planning and production of special projects and cross-program storytelling initiatives as assigned.
- Ensure that all edited products are delivered on time and reflect Pew's voice, standards, and commitment to accuracy and nonpartisanship.
- Coordinate with policy experts and communications staff before editorial content is produced, to plan editorial content as part of an overall communications plan.
- Together with editorial colleagues, provide coaching and support to policy experts and communications staff to help ensure understanding of—and adherence to—Pew's editorial approach and standards.
- Collaborate with Pew's podcast team to develop and execute storytelling arcs reflecting our program work and outcomes content for illustrations, charts, maps, and graphics as required.
- Collaborate with internal communications colleagues to improve and refine coordination and processes, as needed, and contribute to special projects, as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, and generally, a minimum of eight years of editing experience in a deadline-driven environment required.
- Exceptional line and conceptual editing skills with the ability to improve clarity, flow, and narrative framing.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience collaborating across teams.
- Familiarity editing for multiple formats including magazine, web, social, audio, and video a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work flexibly across issue areas and content types, contributing to both program-specific and institution-wide storytelling efforts.
- Strong organizational skills and experience juggling multiple projects at once.
- Significant experience working collaboratively and diplomatically in a team environment, including working directly with writers and policy experts.
- Experience in a public policy, research, or mission-driven organization preferred.
- Familiarity with AP style a must.
