Primary Report To: First Mate of Ledgers aka Senior Bookkeeper

Secondary Report To: Quartermaster of Accounts aka Intermediate Bookkeeper

Job Type: Part-Time (30 hours or less per week) Non-Exempt

Pay: $ $18.50 per hour (DOE)

Available Shifts:

Monday - Friday 8:30am - 1:30pm PST

Monday - Friday 9:00am - 2:00pm PST

Monday - Friday 9:30am - 2:30pm PST

Monday, Wednesday, & Friday 8:30am - 5:00pm PST

At Tied Out Books, we partner directly with small business owners across Atascadero, Paso Robles, San Luis Obispo, and virtually throughout California to build strong financial foundations. About the Role:

We're looking for an Apprentice Sailor to join our team. This is an entry-level position where you'll start small - taking on one client at a time - and build your skills as you go. You'll be trained to handle a variety of Accounts Receivable (A/R) and Accounts Payable (A/P) tasks, record journal entries, and support other bookkeeping basics. 

We are willing to train the right person, but you should come in with at least a basic understanding of debits and credits to succeed in this role. If you bring a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn, this could be a great opportunity to grow with us. 

What You'll Do

  • Assist with client A/R tasks, including invoicing, recording, processing, and payment tracking
  • Support A/P tasks, such as bill entry and recording vendor payments
  • Record Journal entries accurately and consistently
  • Perform data entry and maintain organized financial records
  • Reconcile transactions and ensure accuracy
  • Follow step-by-step processes and repeat them consistently
  • Work closely with our Senior Bookkeeper to support client needs

What We're Looking For

  • Work Ethic - reliable, consistent, and willing to put in the effort
  • Detail-Oriented - able to notice small things and enjoy solving problems
  • Willingness to Learn - open to being taught and able to follow processes
  • Basic Understanding of debits and credits
  • Basic computer skills (QuickBooks Online experience is a plus, but not required)
  • Strong communication skills and a positive attitude
  • Recommended: Two computer screens for efficiency purposes

Pay & Benefits

  • Hourly Pay: $ $18.50 per hour (depending on experience)
  • Schedule: Part-time, 30 hours or less per week
  • Pay Frequency: Bi-weekly direct deposit
  • Remote Work: 100% remote (must reside in California)
  • Holidays: Office closed for 9 federal holidays
  • Time Off: Days off request (minimum 2 weeks in advance); currently unpaid time off
  • CA Sick Time: Accrued and available per California law
  • Stipends & Support: $12.50 per paycheck home technology stipend for internet use
  • Software: All bookkeeping software provided and paid for by the company
  • Compliance: WISP-compliant systems to ensure secure client data
