Job Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide essential support to individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting clients in their daily activities, promoting independence, and ensuring a safe and nurturing environment. This role requires a strong commitment to patient care and the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) including personal hygiene, dressing, and meal preparation.
  • Provide patient observation and monitoring to ensure safety and well-being.
  • Support individuals in community integration and participation in social activities.
  • Implement care plans tailored to each client's needs, including medication administration when necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness in living areas and assist with light housekeeping duties.
  • Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote cognitive and physical engagement, including memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia.
  • Utilize appropriate lifting techniques and equipment such as Hoyer lifts when assisting clients with mobility challenges.
  • Document client progress and any changes in behavior or condition while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals, family members, and social workers to ensure comprehensive care for clients.

Qualifications

  • Experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or similar environments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with patient care techniques, including vital signs monitoring and caregiving practices.
  • Experience working with individuals with autism or other developmental disabilities is a plus.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and their families.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting as required by client needs.
  • A compassionate demeanor with a genuine desire to support individuals in achieving their personal goals.
