Discipleship Pastor

SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Discipleship Pastor will develop a ministry that encourages spiritual growth, prayer, and a desire to be disciples of Christ. This person will play a critical part in leading the fulfillment of the Great Commission, cultivating disciples. Under the direction of the Executive Director, they will be responsible for client spiritual formation at the mission. They serve the Mission by partnering with the program participants and guests to develop, coordinate, and implement effective ministry programs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead in the implementation of the Discipleship ministry, through vision and strategic initiatives.
Preach and teach as needed while mentoring others to develop their preaching/teaching gifts.
Collaborate with the Front Line Staff team to carry out the enhancement of systems and strategies for implementation of ministry programs, projects, and events.
Collaborate with the Support Services Manager in the development, scheduling and facilitate discipleship small groups and classes. Recruit and train volunteers to serve and shepherd throughout the mission.
Developing leaders to lead new groups. Create ministry teams and coordinate an active plan with the goal of growing the Kingdom.
Build teams and systems as appropriate to help all staff, volunteers, donors and guests with their journey with Jesus, to make and mature all disciples.
Oversee and manage ministry interest follow up process.
Lead and engage directly in the planning and execution of ministry events, creating systems to organize and manage. Handle set up/tear down, and communications.
Build volunteer team collaboratively with Volunteer Recruitment Manager including onboarding, training strategies, placement, and appreciation events.
Develop volunteers to support the implementation of ministry projects and programs, organizing schedules and trainings.
Work with marketing to collect, organize, archive, and distribute client stories.
Maintain system for effectively communicating measures, goals and outcomes to Leadership team.
Meet with Support Staff to encourage an approach to evangelism consistent with Open Door values.
Outreach, assimilation and equipping. Coordinate outreach events, welcoming others in while equipping others to do the same.
Connect clients to churches, small groups, and serving ministries in the community.
Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
Lead by example. Wholehearted disciple who loves God and neighbor. Participates in life and worship at ODM. Regularly attends church services and is an active member of a local church.
Other duties as assigned, to ensure the spiritual formation of the clients at the mission.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Has a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing relationship with Him.
Articulates and lives out a Gospel-centered, missional understanding of the church. Maintains a healthy lifestyle.
Demonstrates the ability to lead, equip, and disciple people in various stages of their faith journey.
Speaks with a Spirit-led mixture of love, truth and timeliness.
Exhibit a life of humble character, calling, competency and capacity of a pastor.
Theology competency. Under the leadership of the ED, responsible for the practical, spiritual and biblical theology of the mission. Leading in unity in the essentials (ODM common ground), liberty in the non-essentials and love in all things.
Relationship competency. Understands the dynamics of the heart and relates with ease to others in their joy, pain, struggles, sin and development.
Local sensibilities and understanding of community uniqueness. We live in a rural community with both beauty and brokenness, riches and poverty. With an approach of relationship and sustainability, create an environment where disciples of all backgrounds are growing in Christ.
Has relevant education, experience in ministry and understands the dynamics of discipleship in ODM culture.
Is teachable and open to feedback and accountability. Humble and team orientated.
A demonstrated passion for ministry, advocacy and issues surrounding homelessness and poverty.
Desires to share God's love and truth with everyone at ODM, our community and beyond.
Agrees with and supports ODM's Mission, Vision, Core Values, Purpose, Philosophy of Ministry, Statement of Faith, and Policies & Procedures.
Possesses the ability to work effectively with others in a positive, cooperative manner.
Excellent organizational and coordinating skills.
Knowledge of best practices for Shelters and outreach.
Ability to supervise and train employees/volunteer/guests, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, i.e. Excel, Access, Word, Power Point, etc.
Ability to build and maintain a direct relationship with outside contract agencies.
Clean DMV and insurable through ODM's insurance provider
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL FACTORS: (INCLUDE PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS SUCH AS BENDING, LIFTING, CLIMBING STAIRS, MANUAL DEXTERITY/COORDINATION, FINGERING, STANDING FOR EXTENDED PERIODS OF TIME, ETC. NOTE IF WORK IS OUTDOORS)
Work will involve interacting with a diverse client/guest population, especially those persons who struggle with poverty, homelessness, mental illness, and addiction. Clients may be under the influence of substances, and/or have poor personal hygiene - Continuously
Employees may come into contact with irate and irrational clients who do not comply with behavioral norms - Frequently
Employees may be regularly exposed to some risk of communicable disease from guests of the facility or target population, exposure to TB and other respiratory diseases. - Occasionally
Requires the ability to think, create, develop, speak and hear - Continuously
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- At least 2 years of college in a related field or 4 years of experience in a similar setting or field, or a combination.
