Position Director of Children's Ministries

Full-time Position

Salary $52,000

Reports To Pastor of Family Ministries and to the Church Administrator

Education and Experience

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree (prefer a focus on Pre-School and Elementary Education)

  • 1 Year Experience as teacher or children's director

  • 6 months demonstrated leadership /volunteerism in local church

Qualifications

  • Active and continuing walk with Christ

  • Knowledge and understanding of Global Methodist theology

  • Self-starter with desire to see Children's Ministries expand

  • Strong understanding of positive teamwork

  • Ability to positively connect with children and parents

  • Working knowledge of relevant technology and software to further the ministry

  • Clear driving record

  • Pass background check

  • Pass check of social media

Vision

The vision for our Family Ministries is to gather family and friends to share Faith, Hope, and Love,

as described in the Holy Scriptures. This department carries the vision of the church through three

stages, with a fourth element focusing on parents. The stages that will be of primary focus for the

Children's Director are:

Early stage (cradle to 5th grade) - This development stage will be focused on

catechism (teaching the foundational doctrines of the church)

Parents - We believe parent's play a pivotal role in their child's spiritual development because we

believe they are the primary spiritual authority over their child. Our goal is to be a resource to help

parents have tools and opportunities as they disciple their children.

To accomplish this vision, the Children's Director will provide

Front porch experiences to introduce us to parents who may not be attending our Church and to

invite young families to be a part of our congregation. The purpose of welcoming families is to

expose them to weekly discipleship opportunities for children and families (examples include Fallo-ween/trunk or treat, Advent experiences, Easter egg hunt/experience, Vacation Bible School,

Upward Sports, etc.)

Weekly discipleship opportunities to strengthen our Children's Church, Sunday School, and

midweek discipleship oZerings (American Heritage Girls, Trail Life, Upward Sports, etc.)

Special oIerings/community building specifically designed to build our Christian community.

These are not outreach focused. Their design should be to strengthen connections between

families and our church (ice cream socials, summer camp, parenting classes, Team Family etc.)

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Development and training of volunteer teams to support children's programs; making sure all

volunteers have completed the Ministry Safe program

Weekly discipleship programs –

  • Responsible for oversight of Children's Church, Children's Sunday School, the Nursery,

Midweek programs, and Upward Sports

  • Develop and execute mid-week programing for children

  • Ensure all teaching is Biblically sound and age appropriate.

  • Ensure volunteers have everything they need to succeed.

  • Secure materials and resources to support parents, including effective communication

channels

Front porch/Special offerings and outreach

  • Create community building opportunities for families (at least one per quarter)

  • Vacation Bible School—identify and secure curriculum before January 1st of each year,

recruit, develop and train volunteer teams, coordinate the execution of VBS, work with the

Communications Director to advertise VBS in the community, develop a plan to encourage

VBS families to attend First Methodist Church after the end of VBS

  • Continued development of this area beyond VBS –such as Fall-o-ween, Palm Sunday

celebration, Advent experience, and children's camp

Staff responsibilities

  • Attend all staff meetings and required staff activities

  • Develop and maintain good working relationship with Bluebonnet Preschool

  • Lead and maintain Children's Council

  • Supervise the Nursery Coordinator

  • Produce budget for children's programing

  • Respond to any requests from the Pastoral staZ, the Church Administrator or relevant Church

committee(s)

  • Address concerns first to the Pastor of Family Ministries, then to the Senior Pastor, then, if

unresolved, the StaZ Parish Relations Committee

  • Understand and execute the Child Youth Safety policy

  • Other duties as assigned as needed

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $45, $50,000.00 per year
