Are you a leader in the construction industry with a passion for analysis, processes, and people? We're seeking a Technical Manager to lead our team of Technical Leads, Consultants, and Analysts. In this key role, you'll be the driving force behind the quality of our technical deliverables, ensuring our team is equipped with the best processes, training, and resources to succeed. In this leadership position, you'll work closely with our Practice Area Leaders, Experts, and Leadership Team to ensure our technical operations align with the company's strategic goals.
Responsibilities- Personnel On Boarding and Training: You'll be involved in the entire employee lifecycle. This includes participating in the interview and selection process for new Technical Team members, developing and executing onboarding plans, and collaborate with Area Managers with conducting quarterly and annual performance reviews. You'll also provide constructive feedback, set professional development goals, and act as a mentor, guiding career paths and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Drive Quality and Standards: Oversee the development and implementation of technical standards and processes to ensure the highest quality of all technical deliverables. You'll also be responsible for quality assurance across the department.
- Process Improvement: You'll establish and enforce best practices for technical work products, from data analysis to report generation. This involves regularly auditing project deliverables to ensure they meet company standards and client expectations. You will also create systems for team members to provide feedback on existing processes, enabling continuous improvement.
- Manage Resources and Training: Coordinate resource allocation and create comprehensive training plans for Technical team members.
- Training Coordination: Working with the Director of Product Development, you will develop a structured training curriculum for new technical hires that covers company tools, methodologies, and best practices. You will also identify and organize ongoing training opportunities for the team to stay current with industry trends and new technologies.
- KPI Management: Take ownership of the technical department's Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). You will monitor, analyze trends, propose revisions, and report on performance to the Leadership Team. You will collect and analyze data related to team performance metrics, such as project turnaround time, accuracy rates, and resource utilization. You will prepare and present regular reports to the leadership team, highlighting key trends and suggesting strategic adjustments to improve efficiency.
- Facilitate Communication: Serve as a conduit to clear communication between the Technical Team, Practice Areas, and the Leadership Team, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration across departments.
- Meeting Coordination: You will organize and lead a regular rhythm of meetings to maintain an effective workflow. This includes a daily huddle to align on priorities and address immediate bottlenecks, participate in a weekly regional sync, and lead a monthly Technical Forum to review overall department performance, celebrate successes, and plan for the upcoming month. You'll ensure the quality and effectiveness of the meetings, proposing a new rhythm as needed.
- Technical Analysis and Reporting: Conduct analysis, reporting, inspection, and review on an assigned portfolio of projects to prepare Experts for meetings, depositions, trials, mediations via preparation of technical reports including presentations associated with the projects.
- 3 - 5 years of progressive experience in managing, mentoring, and leading technical teams (e.g., analysts, consultants, engineers).
- 3 - 5 years proven success in the full employee lifecycle: hiring, onboarding, performance reviews, constructive feedback, professional development, and conflict resolution.
- Demonstrated ability to serve as a liaison and effectively communicate complex technical concepts, performance data, and strategic objectives to both technical staff and non-technical executive leadership.
- Strong meeting facilitation skills, including setting clear agendas, managing time, driving decisions, and ensuring follow-through.
- 3 - 5 years prior experience with resource allocation or capacity planning for a technical team, ensuring projects are adequately staffed.
- Experience developing, implementing, and coordinating structured training programs or curriculums.
- Track record of establishing, enforcing, and auditing technical standards and best practices for work products (e.g., data analysis, reports, documentation).
- Knowledge of common project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Scrum) and how to adapt them to a team's workflow.
- Expertise in defining, tracking, analyzing, and reporting on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to translate performance data into actionable insights and strategic recommendations for leadership.
- A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant construction, building, project management, or business field; substitute for proven years of experience.
