Associate Principal Scientist (hiPSC Expert CVRI)
Bayer has an opening for an Associate Principal Scientist to join our Cardiovascular-Renal In Vitro Research group based at the Bayer Innovation Campus in Kendall Square, Cambridge, MA, with the goal of enhancing internal expertise in the heart and kidney hiPSC space. We are looking for a scientist with significant hands-on expertise in maintenance, genome editing, and differentiation of hiPSCs into heart and kidney cell types. Specifically, the candidate will design and conduct experimental research studies at the bench, coach research associates, and propose therapeutic projects targeting cardiovascular disease.

Your Tasks and Responsibilities
The primary responsibilities of the Associate Principal Scientist are to:
• Provide oversight for the maintenance, genome editing, and differentiation of hiPSCs into heart and kidney cell types of interest (at research small scale) internally as well as with external partners; ongoing evaluation of external innovation landscape in this field;
• Establish differentiation and/or maturation protocols for various mutant hiPSC cell lines at research scale to enable early phenotypic and functional analysis;
• Establish and provide guidance on QC and analytical protocols for hiPSC and differentiated cell lines to allow for standardization between batches and assays and across sites;
• Lead novel target proposals and experimental validation to support growth of our early cardiovascular and renal portfolio;
• Assess external targets and programs to understand the competitive landscape and identify potential opportunities for collaboration or technological innovation;
• Engage in close collaboration with scientists and technical staff of the In Vitro Cluster based at the German sites to share knowledge, drive progress, and stimulate innovation;
• Prepare and update experimental protocols;
• Independently perform data analysis and effectively interpret results;
• Lead publication of results, prepare reports, and present at both internal and external forums;
• Coach research associates in a matrix organization;
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues and interdisciplinary teams both within Bayer and with external collaborators.
Who You Are
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in Biology (Cellular, Molecular, or Developmental Biology), Biochemistry, or related life science field;
• Background in cardiorenal disease biology;
• In-depth expertise and hands-on experience in stem cell biology and its translation to cardiovascular or renal disease modeling and drug discovery;
• Expertise in standard molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology assays;
• Experience with 2D or 3D cellular disease models;
• Track record of working on complex problems and ability to integrate data from multiple disciplines;
• Strong interpersonal, influencing, and collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, matrix environment, and the ability to work through conflicts;
• Outstanding personal initiative and accountability, communication skills, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team;
• Ability to adapt, prioritize activities, and effectively manage changes in a fast-paced and dynamic environment;
• A passion for science and a sense of urgency to find new medicines to benefit patients.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Four or more years of relevant research experience in an industry setting with a proven record of successful team leadership and collaboration;
Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $114, $172, Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include healthcare, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.
