Director of Marketing

About the Company
Our client operates a portfolio of six (6) distinct lines of business, each with its own website, inside sales team, and marketplace presence. These brands span a variety of verticals, serving both DTC and B2B audiences. With a strong foundation already in place, we're now focused on what's next: breakthrough growth.
About the Role
We're looking for a bold, scrappy, and strategic Director of eCommerce Marketing—someone ready to roll up their sleeves, think big, and execute even bigger. This isn't just about maintaining what exists. It's about building what doesn't—yet.
After a year of successful optimization and system improvements, we've hit a plateau. We're ready to break through it—and we need a trailblazing revenue driver to lead the charge. This role is designed for a self-starter who can operate with little direction from above, generate and execute bold ideas, and take ownership of growth across digital channels.
This is a hands-on role. Paid media is a major component—you must be both a strategic thinker and a tactical expert in paid acquisition. You'll oversee a $6M annual paid media budget across platforms and brands, but also bring fresh thinking to channels like organic and paid social, influencer, content, and beyond.
What we're really looking for:
- Someone who knows how to scale a brand
- A confident decision-maker who can build and execute a strategy with minimal hand-holding
- A growth marketer who's obsessed with performance, but also creative and brand-minded
- A scrappy operator who loves wearing many hats and thrives in a lean environment
- A leader who can level up over time into a Chief Marketing Officer (CMO)
You'll be responsible for marketing our DTC and B2B web channels, while collaborating with peer leaders who own wholesale, marketplace, and bottom-of-funnel. We have solid teams in place—what we need now is a growth engine.
This is a rare opportunity to make a major impact inside a well-established $70M business undergoing a strategic transformation—where your ideas and leadership will help shape the path to profitability and long-term growth.
This role is fully remote, with quarterly travel to our East Coast headquarters.
Responsibilities:
Own and Scale Performance Marketing:
- Oversee all digital acquisition channels, including paid search, paid social, SEO, and email marketing.
- Manage agency partners and internal resources to hit aggressive customer acquisition and revenue goals.
Lead Strategic Marketing Planning:
- Develop and execute annual and quarterly marketing plans aligned with business objectives.
- Balance short-term performance needs with long-term brand and customer growth strategies.
Expand Organic & Paid Social Presence:
- Drive the strategy and execution of organic and paid social media efforts. Lead expansion into new platforms and campaign types, optimizing for engagement, reach, and ROI.
Brand Stewardship & Development:
- Maintain and evolve brand positioning and messaging across all eCommerce sites and private label brands. Ensure consistent and compelling brand identity across all channels.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner closely with sales, product, operations, and finance teams to align marketing strategies with overall business objectives and customer experience.
Performance Reporting & Analysis:
- Own marketing KPIs and dashboards. Deliver weekly, monthly, and quarterly performance reports with actionable insights. Use data to continuously optimize campaigns and spend.
Agency and Vendor Management:
- Manage relationships with key agencies and vendors. Conduct quarterly business reviews (QBRs) and hold partners accountable to performance and strategic alignment.
Innovation & Program Development:
- Identify, test, and launch new marketing programs or channels that drive incremental growth. Stay ahead of industry trends and implement best-in-class practices.
Leadership & Culture Building:
- Contribute to leadership meetings and company strategy discussions.
- Foster a high-performance culture within the marketing function, focused on accountability, agility, and continuous improvement.
Competitive and Market Intelligence:
- Monitor the competitive landscape and broader market trends. Use insights to identify opportunities for differentiation and strategic advantage.
- Oversee Promotional Activities: Manage promotional activities primarily executed via active engagement in organic social media and expansion into paid social media advertising.
Requirements:
Digital Growth Expertise:
- Minimum 5 years of experience leading performance marketing efforts, with a strong command of PPC, Paid Shopping, SEO, email, and social media.
- Agency background or experience managing external partners is a plus.
- Direct experience scaling paid media budgets ($1M+) is strongly preferred.
Ecommerce Acumen:
- 3–5+ years of experience in DTC and B2B ecommerce environments.
- Proven success managing growth across multiple branded websites, ideally in both high-ticket and high-volume product categories.
Strategic Thinking & Execution:
- Ability to own the entire marketing strategy—from vision to execution.
- Strong sense of ownership and initiative with a scrappy, test-and-learn mindset.
Analytical Rigor:
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets, with strong analytical skills.
- Comfort analyzing marketing KPIs, cohort behavior, CAC, LTV, and funnel performance to drive decisions.
Leadership & Team Development:
- 3–5 years of experience managing and mentoring teams.
- Ability to build a strong marketing culture and develop both internal team members and external partners.
Brand Development & Positioning:
- Experience evolving and managing brand identity, messaging, and customer experience across channels is a plus.
Creative Collaboration:
- Ability to contribute meaningfully to creative processes—including content, messaging, and campaign ideation.
Cross-Functional Communication:
- Comfortable collaborating across departments (sales, product, finance, ops) to align marketing efforts with broader business objectives.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $120, $130,000.00 per year
Application Question(s):
- Would you be comfortable with an independent contractor agreement?
- What is your salary expectation?
