Job summary

Primary duties include leading the strategy and implementation of school-based food assistance at Manna, including but not limited to weekend bags, grocery gift cards, and school-based monthly markets. The manager will work with various internal and external stakeholders, namely Montgomery County Public Schools and Linkages to Learning staff members, to maintain and expand the program in line with larger organizational goals and objectives.

Primary Duties

  • Plan Manna's School-based Food Assistance approach considering the strategy of the County's Office of Food Systems Resilience, peer food assistance providers, relevant data such as Free and reduced meal (FARM) rates and/or Community School status, and other factors.

  • Research, develop, and execute program enhancements and innovations in alignment with organizational and County goals and priorities.

  • Maintain familiarity with federal benefits and the landscape of local and state supports for families with school-aged children and communicate relevant information about these supports with team members, especially in the identification of advocacy opportunities.
  • Initiate and maintain strategic relationships with school staff to enable program implementation and expansion in alignment with organizational goals.
  • Establish and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for key program functions and agreements with schools to promote accountability with standard program policies.
  • Direct the activities of the School-Based Programs Coordinator and support the Coordinator in succeeding in their part-time role.
  • Develop an annual program budget in collaboration with the Community Impact Director and work with Manna's Finance team to track expenditures for the program.
  • Ensure program compliance with grant and contract reporting requirements.
  • Contribute to the Development and Communications team activities that:
  • inform stakeholders, including donors, of program successes via social media and other channels by providing content and consistently updating Dev/Com about program activities.
  • support revenue generation and program sustainability by regularly sharing program goals, statistics, outcomes, and capacity to ensure accurate information in grant applications and reports, and to inform the identification of funding sources.
  • Work closely with key members of the Operations team to ensure successful program implementation.

Minimum requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience or education in program management, program evaluation, partner development in community food security-based programs.
  • Excellent organizational skills and superb attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on a wide variety of diverse and concurrent responsibilities.
  • Experience working successfully in teams and collaborating with diverse staff and volunteers.
  • Proven proficiency with the Microsoft Office software suite, especially Excel.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Program delivery experience is an asset.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a candidate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the candidate is regularly required to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time. The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside an office to access file cabinets and office machinery. The candidate constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer. The person in this position frequently communicates with the public, volunteers, and vendors and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations. The candidate must occasionally move objects up to 15 pounds.

Environmental Conditions

The candidate will be exposed to a variety of fluctuating environmental conditions within the building and at outreach activities, including heat and cold. The candidate must be able to work in these conditions for up to 2 hours at a time.
